The individ- ualism displayed by students and faculty alike makes the R.B.C. community what it is today. This uniquity and individuality can be seen in many ways: through the many teachers and their varied ap- proaches to their subjects and students, and through the students themselves. R.B.C. is not just a building made of bricks and mortar. What makes Red Bank Catholic unique within itself is the people who work and play within its’ con- fines and show what R.B.C. truly is; an unprecedented experience in the lives of its’ people. r The Church In the minds of every student who has ever passed through Red Bank Catholic, sit memories of events, of thoughts of friends, of good and bad times. But a memory which sits in every person’s mind is, of course, the Church. St. James Church was built with all of the grandeur that befits a house of worship. Its stained-glass windows are intricately beauti- ful, the Stations of the Cross, although dimmed with age, shine with the glow of the scenes which they protray. St. James Church has stood as a symbol to us all. A symbol of faith, of joy, of sorrow, of hope, and of love. May it, with God’s blessing, stand forever_______________________ © ©qa a n QQ® REMEMBER FRESHIVIAN YEAR . . . The endless hours of work, the constant frustration, and the sheer determination have all boiled down into one prod- uct: the 1982-1983 Emerald. All of the members are proud of the result, and we hope that this yearbook will be a log of the 1982-1983 school year, a year filled with special moments, never ceasing spirit, and familiar friends. Seniors Rule The Student Council of Red Bank Catholic is one of the most active groups in the school who work from the end of August to the beginning of June. The Student Council mem- bers already exemplified high standards of leadership and school spirit. The Executive Board of 1982-1983, Anne Marie LaRosa, President, Maria Bertolami, Vice President, Teresa DiCesare, Secretary, and Heather Haggerty, Activity Chair- person, organized ceaseless activities throughout the year. These projects included the Halloween Dance, the Homecom- ing Dance, the food drive, and the blood drive. These leaders did one heck of a job during the year and should be appreciat- ed for their efforts. The senior class officers, Cathy Girard, President, Georgia Gross, Vice President, and Elaine Muldow- ney, Activity Chairperson, known affectionately as Larry, Moe, and Curly made the class of 1983’s last year at Red Bank Catholic their most memorable yet. Their leader- ship, responsibility and ceaseless work helped to make the Seniors’ final year the best. Student Council The Junior officers were a very active group this year. They organized such activities as the ring ceremony, candy-grams from Land Sharks during the Christmas months and the Junior Buffet. The Sophomore officers really outdid themselves this year. They organized the M M sale, Sophomore Freshmen Semi- formal and numerous other activities. The Freshmen officers, although new to the ways of RBC, did an outstanding job this year with their ceaseless activities. Without the help of the homeroom presidents and the Student Council Committee, run by Janine Hanrahan, many activities could never have been carried out. They are a very active group whose help is an integral part to the workings of Stu- dent Council. Though you need not be a Robert Frost or an Emily Dickinson, club members look to fur- ther their writing skills. Everything from the short poem to the long essay has been covered prov- ing that the “Fen is mightier than the sword.” 73 Biological Revolution Involving Man While Science and Technology have given us tremendous power, we are also confronted with an awesome re- sponsibility; to use the power and ability wise- ly, to make equitable decision trade-offs, and to make valid and just choices when there is no absolute “right” al- ternative. To prepare the student to be soci- ety’s future decision- maker is the purpose of B.R.I.M. Front Row: T. Nuefeld, A. LaRosa, D. Stamos, V. Profaci, J. Pflug, C. Ferrone, C. Sheehan. The Spanish Club, under the direction of Miss Ka- merman and Mrs. Vona, allowed students studying the language to learn more about the culture and lifestyles of the Spanish people. They sponsored fiestas where club members received a first-hand view of life in a Spanish-speaking country. Finally, they were lucky enough to see an all-star cast per- form Cervantes’ Man of La Mancha, as was adapted for the stage in our own BSA. The Red Bank Catholic Ski Club is one of the most active clubs in the school. One can be sure, whenever conditions permit, the club will be off to Cambelback or any other major ski area. Mrs. Siegel, an avid skiier herself, does a terrific job in the organization of such events. One can see why the Ski Club is one of the most popular in the school. Because two years of a language are required for graduation, all students are familiar with at least one foreign language upon com- pletion of high school. The linguistics teachers’ goal is to instruct students in communicating with foreigners. Through ACIS tours, which are very popular at Red Bank Catholic, and through the lan- guage clubs, students also become famil- iar with the European customs, tradi- tions, and lifestyles. Mrs. Faith DeRoos is a welcome addition to this department. olIiSILIFo a a a MMijjMlfci? Caseys Across The Line Our Boys Cross Country Team faced the fall season with what might have been a disaster. Los- ing eleven seniors from the pre- vious seasons, things looked pes- simistic. But the Casey running prevailed once more. When the season concluded, our Cross Country runners had won 10 meets, while losing only 3. Seniors Frank Baier, Des Var- ady, Jim, McTague, and Craig Wiggington led our senior perfor- mance, while juniors Pat Connelly Russ Creighton, and Pat Mul- vaney. Greatly helped the Cross Country cause. Sophomore Rich Moore was a bright hope for the Casey future. The season closed on a very sad note, when losing Sophomore steady, Robert Connors, in a trag- ic vehicular accident. Coach Rafter, the Casey only Cross Country Coach since the inception of the sport, had his twentieth consecutive winning season. The final record (7-2) indicates all the hard work and practice the team put in to acheive their outstanding victories, six of which were shut-outs. Above all, the team showed true sportsmanship. Keith Crawford, one of the many dedicated Seniors, was appointed to the All-County first team. Voted to the second team were Paul Sper- nal and Jim Miller, along with Juniors Greg Bruno and Max Savaiko. The third team included Sen- iors Kurt Harrison and Steve Johnson. Contributing to the team’s success were the efforts of Head Coach Louis Montenaro. Much appreciation is also extended to the rest of the coaching staff. Without their dedication, the 1982 football season would not have been such a successful one. The long hours of hard work and determina- tion paid off in the continuance of excellence in this sport. This relatively young team, with only two seniors, played an undefeated season, save only one loss in the State Championship. These girls brought home every title from “B” North Championship to the Paro- chial State Championship. The new Head Coach, Miss Virginia Blasi, provided the support and expertise necessary for team success. Mary Hazinski and Nancy O’Brien, the two Senior captains, gave a wealth of experience and Casey spirit which were also strong contributing factors to the team’s winning season. And thank you Mrs. Bliss, for giving us your help, your understanding, and your office. Red Bank Catholic is the sum of its parts. Although it is a large community, the people within RBC manage to retain their unique individuality which makes Red Bank Catholic what it is. We, the editors of the 1983 Emerald, have tried to capture this uniqueness and individualism displayed by the people that comprise our school. The many escapades and ordeals that abounded from the yearbook room, “The Closet,” only served to display our hopes to attain a unique and original yearbook that truly portrays the exclusivity of the RBC community. A very special thanks is due to our advisor, Mrs. Mary Ann Hooker, without whose help this yearbook would have been impossible. Mrs. Hooker has been the impetus who motivated us in times of need and we owe her much. We would also like to extend our thanks and gratitude to Mrs. Nancy Tunis, who was always around when troubles arose and to Mrs. Dorothy Senerchia, who gave us immeasurable help and encouragement. These individuals and untold others leant their creative talents and unique support to the publication of this book. It is our sincerest wish that the Seniors observe the many distinct and different persons and emotions that made their Senior year what it was. We hope that, in years to come, they may remember their final year at RBC the way we have captured it here: original, and we are sure, individual in the minds of the Seniors. 199 Autographs i - ..
