Mrs. Meredith Pennotti, Mr. Philip Lemig and Mr. Steve Johnson, working under the direction of Miss Mary Car- mody introduced to the freshmen an experimental approach referred to as the IDEA program or “Inter-Disciplinary Educational Action.” The purpose of this program was to “cultivate the self- image of the individual in a free, yet dis- ciplined atmosphere.” The principal method used was a correlation of two subjects or dis- ciplines to show the interdependency of each. For example, the content of history was taught through the study of grammatical usage. This overlapping of Math with Science and History with English aided students in fostering better study habits. The class was divided into three groups according to a weekly schedule with the rotation of labs, worksheets and organized activities. In the words of Meredith Pennotti.
