The team, through hard work, practice, sacrifice and performance, showed their desire for victory. Their diligent efforts were rewarded when they became the STATE CHAMPIONS. Coach John Rafter once again guided the Casey harriers in this victorious season. The fine leadership of Co-Captains Kevin Burrows, Jim Keiser, and Bill Wilson also contributed to the team’s fine success. Jim Keiser, Varsity Co-Captain. 116 FRESHMAN TEAM — Front Row: G. Miline, J. GIRLS’ CROSS COUNTRY The R.B.C.’s Girls’ Cross Country Team proved itself once again. The girls worked together dedicated to the course of victory. Victory indeed came, when the girls won the STATE CHAMPIONSHIP. This year the team was led by Coach Harry Cop- perthwaithe, who helped combine their individual strengths to achieve victory in unity. The latter un- doubtedly shows that the girls deserve the title “State Champions.” With many underclassmen performing important roles in the team’s record, it is hopeful that next year’s team will be just as victorious. 120 Betsy Cangialosi 121 VARSITY — First Row: J. From the first kickoff against Red Bank Regional, to the final play at Rumson, the Caseys played a tough game. At the end of the season, the Caseys had an impressive record of 6 wins and 3 losses. New head coach Tom Lalli led the Caseys through this successful season. With the aid of other coaches, he strengthened the team’s defensive, offensive and kicking strategies. All this, combined with a strong desire to win brought victory to the team. 123 124 Jim Clappin, Jay Sciortino ivuiilUJJU . k . v . Ed Sutphin 125 J.V. — First Row: B. Olsen, D. Langan, J. The 1972 Girls’ Basketball Team entered its third season of interscholastic competition. The Caseyettes had a slow start due to inex- perience, but through hard work and diligent practice, their game improved. Out of the final eleven games, the girls captured eight victories. This year, Coach Charlie Blum and Co- Captains Ann Halton and Kerry Higgins guided the team. Individual talents, combined with the total efforts of the girls, gave the team an overall record of eight wins and nine losses. The team loses seniors Kathy Dwyer, Ann Halton and Joann Harper, but with the return- ing talent of the underclassmen the future looks bright for the Caseyettes. Dwyer, P. Seamen, L. Conklin, A. WRESTLING The Casey Wrestling Team completed an impressive season, with a Varsity record of 10-4, and a J.V. record of 11-3. The Casey grapplers defeated Rumson and St. Joe’s Toms River, and highlighted the season by winning over C.B.A. and St. Joe’s Metuchen. In the districts, the team finished strong by taking third place. Individuals also placed in the districts. Tom Seitz, Ray Distefano and Jeff Clayton captured first place and Joe Egan and Ted Poulos took second. This was the first time R.B.C. had three first place champions in one year. The Caseys were the sixth highest team in the regions, and Tom Seitz took first in his weight class. Tom went on to the state finals, and captured third, being the first Casey wrestler to reach such honors. Tri-captains John Keale, Craig Snyder and Tom Fuorry contributed their talents to the team, and aided Coaches Ray Visbeck, Harry Copperthwaith, and Frank Poleski in keeping the Caseys on top. 136 John Keale 137 VARSITY SQUAD: Kneeling, left to right: T. Powerful sprinters include John Anunziata, Mike Safko; distance run- ners include Jim Reiser, Jim Daly, John Rafter, and Kevin Burrows; and in the weight class the Caseys have Gene Boyle and Mike Kretowicz. GIRLS’ TRACK The Girls’ Track Team of 1973 looks forward to another successful season of inter- scholastic competition. The Caseyettes, led by Coach Jack Rafter and tri-captains Diana Dubel, JoAnn Harper and Debbie Rathlev, are working toward the State Championship. The team won their first meet, and plan to win many more. Returning members include Ann Halton, Kathy Dwyer, Kerry Higgins, and Betsy Cangialosi. The talents of these girls, combined with the talents of many other team members, will give the Caseyettes the honors they deserve. 142 Maureen McGann and Kerry Higgins. m INDOOR TRACK TEAM — Front row, left to right: J. Winter Track Team completed a successful season this past February, splitting two dual meets, in addi- tion to competing in half a dozen “invitationals.” In its dual encounters, the Caseys lost to a powerful CBA squad but soundly defeated St. Thomas of Edison. The standout effort of the season was sophomore Jim Daly’s 4:35 mile in the Shore Championship at Lakehurst. Outstand- ing seniors on the squad were Kevin Burrows, Tim Coleman, Pat Hickey, Jim Keiser, Tom Kelly, and John Rafter. After a long, cold season of hard work, the Indoor Track Team will be reaping their reward this coming outdoor season. Jim Lobermann This year, the Athletic Department has in- creased student participation with the appoint- ment of two student athletic directors. Jim Lobermann and Jeanne Alter have proved to be invaluable in the department, by being available to the students and coaches whenever the need arose. The decision to have such di- rectors has proved to be an asset, and it is hoperul that those appointed in the future may live up to the record that has been established by these two students. GOLF Under the direction of Coach Ray Visbeck, the Golf Team opened the 1973 season in April by securing a win in their first match. Returning seniors Dennis Sheehan, Gene Shee- han, Mike Davino and Bill McKenna are a great asset to the team, along with underclass- man Bill Charpek. Through the diligent efforts of the team, the season will surely be a success. 145 GOLF TEAM — Front row, left to right: G. Sheehan, M. Davino, W. Sharpeck, Coach R. Visbeck, D. Sheehan, J. The team started out with six returning lettermen, including sen- ior standout Paul McGuinness and junior Joe D’Onofrio. The boys showed a great amount of style and strength in the four pre-season scrimmages and went on to win their first game. Coach Joe Kristofik is confident for a vic- torious season. Individual talents combined with team effort will give the Caseys victory. Players from both J.V. and Freshman squads, under the direction of Coaches Paul Christopher and Lou Montanaro, complete the well-balanced Casey attack on the diamond. 146 John Shellenbach with Coach Kristofik.
