Years characterized by growth, by the newness of our school, and by a youthful vigor found in all concerned with its operation. During this four-year period, the school enrollment has increased considerably. In its initial year, 1950, the student body totaled three hundred and thirty. Today, four years later, live hundred and eighty-one students are in attendance. Truly then, these have been the formative, growing years -f The Green Years. --lllllll 0 El-llllllgg -IIIIP ::::::----- Yr ,-a-'g,..,' !' lllllllllliiillliil 'lllIIllFlHl!'S'Nll1ll:::: nag: II vnlf1lIlIHl! Four fleeting years have passed since Reavis High School lirst opened its doors to students in 1950. These green years - the grow- ing years - have produced the traditions. the line reputation. and high regard which our school now maintains. These green years have also turned out the lirst graduating class to have completed all four years at Reayis. Students and faculty memhers alike have striyen to form good policies. maintain high standards. and set appropriate regulations and goals for these formative. growing years - The Green Years. gf' 1 IYAQ SCAOQI Under the able guidance of the administration, Reavis High School has become the main center of student-faculty activities, as well as a noteworthy institution of higher learning. Mr. Carl Thokey, our superintendent, along with his executive assistant, Mr. W. Shultz, has given much time and consideration to the establishment of wise policies and the creation of good student-teacher relationships. During the first four years these policies have material- ized until we now have a most respected school - a school teeming with community activities. Enthusiastic students and teachers have established these activities and proceeded to engage in wholehearted participation in their progress. New organizations and activities are created each year with an ever-growing number of members joining in the ex- pansion of school affairs. The new recreation room has proven a very successful addition to our school where students play ping pong, dance to the latest records, or just sit and chat. The Student Council serves in coordinating activities between students. faculty, and the administration. It has aided in the administration and sponsor- ship of certain school groups. Membership of the council includes three representatives elected by each class plus the president of each class. The president and secretary ofthe council are elected by a vote of the whole student body. During the past year the council has sponsored the student recreation room, chosen assembly programs for next year, assigned concessions to clubs, wrote a constitution, contributed to the social calendar. and discussed student matters in general. The field of inter-school relations has commanded the attention of the council. The group participated in Southwest Suburban Conference council meetings, South Suburban Congress of Student Councils, Northeast-Northwest District Council meetings. and in the State Association of Student Councils. Page 37 BLUEPRINT Sfaff Constantly striving to print the news of Reavis' activities objectively and fairly, encouraging good writing from students, and building up school spirit, the BLUEPRINT staff produces an issue of the school newspaper once a week. Scene of this memorable event was the Grand Ball- room ofthe Shoreland Hotel. After hours of dancing amid the splendor of the ball- room, the Grand March started at 11:30 p.m. with the junior and senior class presi- dents. Bill Bain and jim Rokaitis, and their dates leading the procession. Most of the two hundred there participated in the march. Flowers were given to Mrs. Thokey, Miss Feldt, Mrs. LeVine, and Mrs. Pasti. These victor- ies have made Reavis a proud, but humble, school. Our athletes and coaches have spent many hours and a great deal of energy in practice for all contests. Their spirit and enthusiasm have doubtless been very instrumental in the high sports ranking of our school. The various athletic teams have faced defeats with an upward look to future victories. Even when the odds seemed overwhelmingly against them, our teams have put up hard fights and played good games. In victory Reavis featured to advantage a hard, drive-in attack from a fast break. This type of aggressive play requires good substitution of key players who might foul out. Winning ways were also characterized by good outside shooting fwhich was necessary for a team which lacked heightj, fine ball handling, a pressing man-to-man defense, and a squad which molded itself into a smooth working unit. Ram losses can be attributed to two things: a lack of height and experience. The Hrst five consisted of one sophomore, two juniors, and two seniors who found the going rough when playing taller and more experienced squads, but who showed their ability against teams of their own caliber. The team finished the season with a seven. eleven record which was the second best winning percentage over the last four seasons. This senior class has precious memories of its participa- tion in the many school activities during the green years. Although these years have passed rapidly, great strides have been made toward giving our school a personality of its own and establishing its customs.
