C0 AR D71 USN COMMANDIN G OFFICER, USS REASONER IFF-10632 Commander Arndt was born in Seattle, Washington and attended schools in Richland, Washington. He is a graduate of Washington State University and was commissioned an Ensign in June 1965 upon completion of Naval Officer Candidate School. He was promoted to Commander in June 1980. Commander Arndt's initial assignment was the amphibious ship USS TORTUGA ILSD-261 in which he served as Communications officer. His next tour of duty was an Officer-in Charge of a PCF lSwift Boatl in Vietnam, from June 1967 to June 1968. Commander Arndt then served on the Staff of Commandant, Eleventh Naval District in San Diego prior to attending Destroyer School, Newport, Rhode lsland in 1970. Upon graduation from Destroyer School, he served as Operations Officer in the destroyer USS HANSON lDD-832l. Following an assignment as Commanding Officer, Naval Reserve Center, Vallejo, California in 1972 he was ordered to Headquarters, Navy Recruiting Area Eight in San Francisco. Commander Arndt graduated with highest distinction from the Naval War College, Newport, Rhode Island in July 1976 and then served as Flag Secretary and Aide to Commander Cruiser Destroyer Group ONE. Upon completing an assignment as Executive Officer, USS STEIN IFF-1065l in December 1979, served as Commanding Officer, Navy Recruiting District, Columbus, Ohio. He assumed command of USS REA- SONER in September, 1982 ln addition to service and campaign ribbons, Commander Arndt has been award- ed the Bronze Star with Combat V , the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy Commendation Medal with Combat V and gold star in lieu of second award and the Purple Heart.
