Dedication Although you may shudder at the thought, we were once freshmen. We entered Reading High as ' ' impressionable under¬ classmen, intimidated by juniors that sold elevator passes and seniors that told us where to go when we asked for directions to Room 50. Yet, with the support of our advisors, Mr. and Mrs. Scarpitto, we managed to survive our four years at RMHS. The Sc arpittos were an influen¬ tial force behind the success of the Class of 1986. This was, in part, due to the fact that they devoted much of their time outside of school, as well as during the school day itself, to our activities. More commendable than their aid in planning class functions was their commitment and enthu¬ siasm in following the activities to the end. Whether it was a dance, a carwash, or a buffet, the Scarpittos were always present to encourage us. Our advisors surpassed their obligations, however. They not only worked with the class, but in a sense became a part of it. Their dedication to the class brought them beyond their original positions; the Scarpittos may have been introduced as our advisors, but the Class of 1986 left knowing that they were our friends. 4

Table of Contents On the Rise Pioneer ' s editors expanded the underclassman section this year. As they constituted such a large portion of the school, it was thought necessary to include underclassmen as a relatively larger part of the book than in previous years. Rising Interest Rates 144 Extra-curricular activities gave students an alternate form of education outside of the classroom. Each school activity, from clubs to productions, has a photograph and write-up. The descriptions capture the essence of RMHS afterschool organizations. 164 Reading High has long dominated the Middlesex League in both boys and girls sports. Pioneer ' 86 has included 32 pages of team photographs and seasonal summaries. The action and excitement of the 1985-86 season has been captured within these pages. Rising to the Occasion 200 When trying to decide on a theme, many were mentioned, talked about, and then rejected. So, we stopped and tried to come up with characteristics that reflected our class. We have done everything with finesse and had unequaled class unity and spirit. Our class has truly done its best to rise to every occasion.

Dear Class of 1986, It is hard to believe that the last four years as your class advisors has unfortunately come to an end. Since the very beginning we have been extremely proud of you and the accomplishments you have made. Although it has been hard work and time consuming, it has been a labor of love. The dedication of your president Michelle Carter, your other class officers, and a nucleus of hard working fellow classmates have made us one of the most active classes in the school ' s recent years. Justifiably, we became known as the Class with class. Graduation is a time of pride, and you should be proud of what you have become. However, it will be a bittersweet occasion for us. Sweet in that it has been rewarding to watch you grow into young men and women and reach this memorable day, but bitter in that time is such a theif and we must now say good-bye. We find solice in the phrase that those we hold dear never truly leave us. They live on in the kind¬ ness they showed, the comfort they shared and the love they brought into our lives. We know that our world is a brighter place because of you. Wherever life may lead you, may you find a world of happiness and may all your dreams come true. Best Wishes Mr. and Mrs. Scarpitto
