Dedication Rena Mirkin We all knew getting into college wouldn’t be easy. Every one of us had heard countless horror stories about applications, interviews, financial aid, and scholarships. Still we faced the task unafraid, for we had. Rena Mirkin on our side. As commanding officer of the “guidance suite” and possessor of a seemingly endless knowledge of colleges, Mrs. Mirkin provided that extra push that many of us needed. Seldom was there a day when she didn’t corner us in the hallway, inquiring about our future plans, always displaying genuine interest and concern. Oftentimes she amazed us with her ability to get to know each one of us personally. With her help we even amazed ourselves, as we slowly but surely met those application deadlines. Mrs. Mirkin’s talents were not all directed at getting us into college, however. Somehow she found the time and energy to support our school and our class. Her contributions to the student council cannot be measured — her enthusiasm alone encouraged the group to become more service orientated. Mrs. Mirkin was also a very vocal cheerleader. She was one of the few people who never seemed to give up on the class of ’85. Could it be that she thinks we have potential? No matter. Mrs. Mirkin, we return the compliment. We are some of your biggest fans. Thank-you! You’ll never be forgotten!! 6

Special Thanks Deborah Sweeney Mrs. Sweeney was our advi¬ sor for only two years, but she accomplished so much during that time. It was largely because of her that our class began to come together. Due to her in¬ fluence the class committee nearly tripled in size, and under her direction we even began to make money! Many of us regarded Mrs. Sweeney not as an advisor, but as a good friend. If every one of us had a problem and needed to talk, she was always more than willing to listen. Sometimes she offered advice, but her reassuring smile was often more than enough. When she moved away we had mixed emotions. Mostly we were sad because we were losing a great asset to our class. We were also jealous of the kids she is teaching now. Thanks Mrs. Sweeney. We miss you! It is significant that as we leave RMHS, our guidance counselor, Mr. Pacino leaves also. He is retiring this year af¬ ter a long and successful ca¬ reer dealing with young peo¬ ple. We are the best witnesses of his gift — being able to offer a student both career and emotional counseling. We can also attest to the fact that Mr. Pacino is a good sport. Who will forget Octo¬ ber 31,1984? We hoped you liked the pumpkins Mr. Paci¬ no, and we hope that they will always remind you that you were a favorite of ours!! Donna Pappalardo John Pacino Miss P. had a tough act to fol¬ low when she took over as our class advisor for Mrs. Sweeney, but she carried it off with ease. Like Mrs. Sweeney, Miss P. is easy to talk with, and often you forgot that she was a teacher. She carried on Mrs. Sweeney’s tradition of getting us involved with our class but added her own style as well. We were fortunate that someone cared enough to help us finish high school with a winning spirit. Miss P. is that someone.
