EDITORS’ MESSAGE If we look back at ourselves four years ago we may see frightened freshmen trying hard to grow up fast. Suddenly we were faced with new experiences and new challenges. Yet, through all the changes and uncertainty we began to discover new friends. They have become a special part of our lives, for they have helped us to grow and become what we are today. The editors of Pioneer 1982 have decided to express the theme of “Growing Together in Friendship” throughout this book because we feel that it reflects the most special aspect of our high school years. The friends we have now, once just aquaintances or friendly faces in the crowd, sincerely care about us, understand who we are, and gently invite us to grow. Together, as a class, we have shared many good times which have helped us to realize the true value of our friendships. It is difficult to express a lifetime of memories in so few words. We may travel separate ways in search of different goals, but there is a part of high school that will remain with us for as long as we live — the strong friendships we have developed through the years. These bonds of friendship can never be broken. Remember, no matter how high you climb on the ladder of success, never forget those who supported you along the way. True friendship is a rare and special thing, hold onto it forever! 17

DEDICATION Dedicating a yearbook is a very difficult task, especially when so many people have had profound impact upon the graduating class. Throughout our four years here, many people have worked in diffe¬ rent ways to help us mature, expanding our hori¬ zons as we began to discover ourselves. It is with much consideration that the Pioneer 1982 dedica¬ tion goes to two people who have distinguished themselves as very special, and unique individuals — Mr. and Mrs. John T. Hollingsworth. John Hollingsworth is more than just a smiling face in the halls and on the athletic fields; there is a special and enduring sincerity behind that smile. His twenty-five year committment to the town of Reading has touched the lives of many students, whether they be athletes on the playing field, participants in a physical education class, or stu¬ dents in a math class. The energy and support he has shown for two generations of students — from lining fields to coaching a Superbowl team — has clearly set him a step above. Mr. Hollings¬ worth will always remain a valuable and cher¬ ished part of RMHS and the town of Reading. 18
