DEDICATION Dear Mr. Howland, Traditionally, the Dedication has been written about the person to whom the yearbook was dedi¬ cated. This year, however, we wanted to tell you directly what you have meant to us. We wrote this note as an expression of our gratitude for all you have shared with us. Initially, your sense of humor intrigued us, but it was your sensitivity which allowed us to feel we could trust you as our friend. Your humor never became a facade, only a tool by which you taught us not to take ourselves too seriously. When you felt a point was important and of value to us, if not now, perhaps later, you revealed the sensitive man who really cared about our growth as individuals. You have a feeling for people and an ability to communicate, a rare combination. You understood us, perhaps because you are secure within yourself, and you remember where you have been and what you have undergone. We appreciate your openess and the way you have encouraged us to be just as honest. The straight-forward manner in which you taught created a casual classroom atmosphere in which we could express our ideas without feeling intimidated. You were able to utilize the topics discussed in class to emphasize not only the academic value of literature, but its invaluable lessons for life. As we move on, we will bring with us the useful lessons you have taught on both the academic and personal levels. We want you to know the impact that you have made on us and how thankful we are to have shared our high school experience with you. With gratitude, The Class of 1981
