Dear Classmates: Our high school career has ended. These four years have passed too quickly for some and too slowly tor others. Do you remember how nervous and scared we were when we first entered this building? Now, as we prepare to leave, all our fears of high school are behind us. It ' s on to new adventures and new friends. Here, in this book, we have tried to capture precious moments so that we will always remember our senior year. As we reflected on our experiences, we sought the appro priate theme under which to file all our remembrances. The theme which we thought to be most appropriate is The Circus. We don ' t mean a circus in the respect that school was a charade, but merely that we have pooled all our talents and skills to create a performance, a performance in which we have developed from frightened souls into unique individuals. It has been these individuals who have created the Class of 1980. To each and every member we extend our best wishes and congratulations for the super job done in making this class one of the best to ever pass through the doors of Reading Memorial High School. We have all walked that thin tight rope growing more steady as we neared the end. Now it is time for us to take a stand in the center ring and lead the show through it ' s finale. We ' ve all shared the moments in the limelight and now comes the time for us to exit. Let us leave as happily as we came, only possessing a more abundant knowledge of life. To all the ringmasters, clowns, artists, and anyone else involved in our circus — thank you. And a special thanks to all the parents for putting up with us, not only for these past four years but for our lifetimes. Remember, this one ' s for you. Your editors, Marion Hiltz Robin Dillon

Once in a vision I came on some woods and stood at a fork in the road. My choices were clear, yet I froze with the fear of not knowing which way to go. One road was simple acceptance of life, the other offered sweet peace. When I made my deci¬ sion, my vision became my release. — Dan Fogelberg 4

DEDICATION Robert Swanson As Seniors, one of the hardest tasks is saying good-bye to the close friends that we have made since ninth grade. It is espe¬ cially difficult to say good-bye to one individual, Mr. Swanson. As a teacher, he is enthusiastic. There is never a dull moment in his classroom, but then, what else would you expect from a man who idolizes Churchill? Yet, the characteristic which dis¬ tinguishes Mr. Swanson is his true understanding of his stu¬ dents. As our class advisor during tenth and eleventh grades, he gave us the incentive we needed. Mr. Swanson sacrificed a great deal of his time to plan and participate in class activities. We will always remember the good times we shared with him, particu¬ larly apple picking and the Junior Prom. At the beginning of our senior year, Mr. Swanson realized that he would be unable to devote the necessary time to help make our final year a success. He made the hard decision to step down from his position, so that the senior class would not be short changed. However, whenever we needed him, he was always there. In dedicating this yearbook to Mr. Swanson, we hope to ex¬ press our appreciation and respect for him, not only as a teach¬ er, but also as a true friend.
