Mr. Spence 1970! The new decade we begin is another chance, not just for you, but for all mankind. This new world before us is too immense, too diffuse—too intricate and complex for one person to contain or comprehend it all. The ideal of the Renaissance Man—he who strove to know all, to be all—is now an impossibility. All we can hope to do is to choose as wisely as we can the one theme in time which best has meaning for us and to live our theme, do our thing. Mr. D ' Orlando Your generation has a freshness of vision, question¬ ing mood, and willingness to participate which can make you highly effective in chipping away the rust of hypocrisy from the old verities of the human heart which Faulkner wrote about—love, honor, compassion, freedom. By your actions, ideas, and feelings you can re-create those values for yourselves. The process is eternal. 9

Administration Mr. Karakashian Principal A few words to each member of the Class of 1970— One thing you and I are agreed upon is that the human being is improvable and that the process through which he improves is the process of education. If you did not believe this, you would have dropped out of school long ago. Now that you are about to be graduated from high school, don’t abandon this belief. Whether you continue, your formal education elsewhere or not, continue to observe, think, learn, and grow. Don’t despair if the broad societal changes you desire are slow in coming. Stay within the broad mainstream of your society and do your bit by improving the quality of your own life, and the world will surely become a better place to live in. Ara A. Karakashian
