Its purpose is to express gratitude to a person whose service to the school merits such an honor. This service not only includes regular school duties, but also services which, although not required, are greatly enjoyed by the stu¬ dent body. Mr. James Roth has surely fulfilled these requirements. Mr. Roth has been teaching at RMHS for ten years. During this time he has introduced the annual operettas, and exchange concerts for both the band and the glee club. His duties not only include all of the high school’s music activities but also a portion of the elementary school’s music program. These many contributions are only part of the reason for our choice of Mr. Roth for this recognition. We admire his dedication to music and to teaching. His likeable personality combined with his great de¬ termination has made our music classes anything but dull as we worked to make our concerts successful. Mr. Roth deserves much recognition for all that he has done for Reading High School and we the Class of 1967 are proud to be able to dedicate our yearbook to this outstanding member of the RMHS faculty. 7 8 ADMINISTRATION Mr. Ara A. Once I arrived my problem was speaking and understanding English. Now that I have become more familiar with the language I am much more at home. My first impressions of Reading were mixed. The town is very different from my city of Valencia, Venezuela. The construction of houses is different here. Our homes resem¬ ble those of Florida and of the American Southwest. School life is also a bit different here. At the beginning of the year 1 got lost on several occasions since in Venezuela the students do not have to change rooms. I was very glad to play for the RMHS soccer team. For me playing soccer was one of the best ways to make friends. Soccer, gymnastics, and all the other activities have combined with the kind and courteous people of Reading to make my year in the United States an enjoyable one. RONALD WINSLOW The thought of being lifted out of one’s own home and being placed in an entirely different environment would appear to be shocking. In order to be sure of fitting into the ways of another country; one must make adjustments, learn languages, and worry about meeting a strange” people. Before I left for France last June, I wondered what I was going to come up against. As I became settled in my new home, I found that any worries I had were foolish and that a foreign people wasn’t really strange at all. My greatest discovery last summer was that of recog¬ nizing that the world’s people can live together in peace, and that any rifts existing between countries are on the government level, not the people” level. The people’s means of attaining peace and happiness may be slightly different, but the differences do not make two peoples strangers. My experience changed my goals and added dreams to my future. One of my biggest dreams is to visit my family and friends and to live again for awhile as a Frenchman. CLASS HISTORY The Class of 1967 arrived at Reading Memorial High School in the fall of 1964. Little did this class realize what memorable events were in store for them. Such happy memories as being the first class in the high school to have health courses, and being the first class to enjoy the new swimming pool for three years shall be utmost in our reminiscences. Our sophomore class officers were elected, with Michael Jackson as president, Richard Merullo as vice- president, Janette MacLean as secretary, and Ann Killelea as treasurer. Our Sophomore Hop, Roman Splendor,” was held in November. Our junior class election results are as follows: Janette MacLean, president; Ronald Winslow, vice-president; Marsha Karakashian, secretary; and Ann Killelea, treasurer. Our Junior Prom, entitled Younger Than Springtime”, was enjoyed by all. National Merit tests were held at the end of our junior year, resulting in five semi-finalists in our senior class. In May we bid the Class of 1966 a fon d farewell with our Junior-Senior Reception Softly As I Leave You.” Then came a senior year that will not soon be forgotten in the annals of R.M.H.S history. This was our year, 1967. Our final class officers were as fol¬ lows: Michael Jackson, president; Albert DiDonato, vice-president; Marsha Karakashian, secretary; and Ann Killelea, treasurer. During the fall of the year, some of the seniors participated in the televsion program It’s Academic.” Also the literary magazine Nimrod” was started by enthusiastic seniors. We excelled not only in the academic, but also on the sports field. Supported by the spirit shown in both the cafeteria and auditorium rallies. Bill Kelly and Gino Serrecchia as co-captains led our football team to a berth as co-champs of the Middlesex League. The climax of the season was our 15-14 victory over Mel¬ rose. Thus the Class of 1967 left R.M.H.S with another championship team to its credit. The next sports highlight was the basketball season. Our captains. Bill Kelly and Michael Jackson, along with the rest of the team, succeeded in giving the school its’ second championship title of the year—Middlesex League Basketball Champions. With the end of our Senior year came such events as Field Day, Senior Banquet-Senior Talent Night, Class Day, Baccalaureate, and finally Graduation. With all of these wonderful memories, and with the knowledge that we’ve gained through our twelve years of schooling, the Class of 1967 sadly, but with many thanks, bids Reading Memorial High School a fond farewell. 149 Odds and Ends Feeding time at the zoo!
