At one of the depart- ment meetings, Miss Martha M. Morrctte and her staff discuss the mer- its of using a variety of visual aids to supplement the regular classroom in- struction. Miss M fi c h c l i n e Miville- Dechene, one of the French tea- chers, makes use of the special features of the -ncu'lg-acquired laboratory equipment to help students gain language profi- cienc y. I. swf Q .F J Foreign Language Department Department Head - Miss Martha M. Morrette Introduction of a new foreign language and the acquisition of a modern language laboratory highlighted this departments curriculum growth and expanded facilities this year. With the addition of Russian to the cur- riculum, Reading High School earned the distinction of being one of the three hun- dred high schools in the United States to offer this course. Other languages which were offered by the department were Latin, Spanish, French, and German. New teachers in this department this year were Mrs. Vera G. Auman and Miss Micheline Miville-Dechene.

1 Mr. Theodore C. Walker, Mr. Charles Keller, Jr., Direc- tor of Music for the Reading School District, and Mr. J. Carl Borelli discuss plans for the tufenty-eighth annual Evening of Music to be pre- sented in the Reading High School auditorium on Mon- day, March 1.7, 1960. Music Department Vocal-Mr. Theodore C. Walker Instruimental-Mr. J. Carl Borelli A Cappella Choir, girls' chorus, mixed chorus, mixed ensemble, and the Castlettes constituted the five choral groups at the Castle this past year. In addition, the Music Department sponsored seven instrumental units, namely the marching band, concert band, concert orchestra, brass en- semble, Woodwind ensemble, string ensemble, and the Castleairess-Reading High Schools own dance band. Throughout the year, the various choral and instrumental groups presented delightful pro- grams for school assemblies and civic organiza- tions. Music theory classes and the CastIe's choral groups were eapably instructed by Mr. Theodore C. Walker. In addition to his numerous duties as instru- mental instructor and director, Mr, J. Carl Borelli taught a number of classes in music harmony.
