Sheet: explains the radioactive isotopes of the com- mon elements to boys of his indus- trial chemistry class. 4' , s- -:gi Science Department Department Head- Mr. W. XVhalen Fenstermacher Reading High School is one of the six-hundred secondary schools through- out the country that introduced into its science curriculum the Physical Science Study Committees accelerated physics course which was developed at the Mas- sachusetts Institute of Technology. Four main facets of science stressed in this program were the universe, op- tics and waves, mechanics, and electri- city. Highlighting the departments extra- curricular activities were a field trip to the Temple University School of Den- tistry and Pharmacy, and a visit to the Kutztown State Teachers College for a science seminar. Numerous laboratory ea:periinents in Mr. Fred E. Luekeubill's advanced bi- ology and physiology classes served as valuable supplements to the regular elass room instruction.

Social Science Department Department Head- Mr. Norman Brillhart Instructional films, field trips, and weekly issues of the American Observer were among the many means used by the members of the Social Science staff to enrich and supplement the courses in this department. Heading the list of special student achievements this year were the first and third place honors which our stu- dent delegation earned at the Model United Nations' conclave at Albright College on December 12, 1959. Babb, to draw up a constitution for the newly-formed organization, and to discuss future plans for this extra-curricular social science activity. Miss Carrie E. Babb. Beverly Radcliffe, Debrah Roth, John Heilman, John German Mr. Harold F. Roles shows and ex- plains the colorful illustrations of a past civilization to one of his world eul- ture classes. During one of the department meetings, Mr. Norman C. Brillhart and members of his staff discussed special articles to be emphasized in the weekly social science news- paper-the American Observer.
