JUNE NINETEEN THIRTE Q You, the class of l936Iune,areabout to leave us. My associations with you during the past three years have been most pleasant. Hs you leave us, some of you will enter higher insti- tutions of learning, others will follow some vocation and ultimately all will take your places in a complex society. Remember that few persons get a place in the Hall of Fame, but all can be honorable citizens. There is a service to be rendered by each one of you, and, in order to serve well, you must con- stantly strive to improve. VV e hope for you the best that life can give, the strength and courage to do the worth- while things. IVAN E. NEWPHER LLOYD R. ENOCH Q For most ofyou, schooldays are ended. Does this mean no more class-rooms, study halls, teachers, assignments, and report days to worry about? But henceforth, the world at large will be your class-room. Experience will be your teacher and disciplinarian, much more so than has been the case in the past. Her assigned tasks you will find more difficult to accomplish. Her rewards for meritorious service are harder to get and far easier to lose. Her penalties for failing to recognize eternal truth are a good deal more bitter than any meted out in the schoolroom. The greatest lessons you will learn will be from lives heroically lived around you. Learn now to seek such lives, and what is more, to rejoice in them, imitate them, and Tennyson's challenge O loyal to the royal in thyself will find fruition in happiness.

JUNE NINE-TEEN TI-IIRTEA EIX HALL OF FAME .Built into the life of every Qmerican is the heritage founded upon the self-sacrifice, loyalty, and perseverance of the truly great men and women whom the Hall of Fame immortalizes for us. When New York University established the Hall of Fame in l900, it gave to our nation one of its sources of inspiration. We, the Hmerican people, are facing the same trials, struggles, and tempta- tions that the men of the past have faced. How- ever, in the lives of these great leaders we find encouragement and strength to strive ever on- ward. We realize, in the words of Longfellow, that The heights by great men reached and kept were not attained by sudden flight, but they, while their companions slept, were toiling upward in the night. Q Every Hmerican is a shareholder in the Hall of Fame. This should be foremost in the mind of every person. We must live up to the ideals advanced by the best minds and noblest spirits of each generation. The men and Women repre- sented in the Hall of Fame were pioneers who dedicated their lives to the building of the Hmerican democracy. lust so, we today are at the frontier, spurred on by the call of service which led the men of past centuries. 'With such encouragement and inspiration, We, the pioneers of the modern world, can con- quer our lives and lay sound foundations for future ages. ai ll lll llll llll llll lll Lives of great men all remind us We can make our lives sublime, Rnd departing leave behind us Footprints in the sands of time. -Henry W. Longfellow. I I
