JUNE WILLIAM L. FINK, Vice principal Q 'lDeeds of great menl This is the theme that you have chosen for your year-book. Fortu- nate indeed will be those of you who will reach the highest round of the ladder of fame. But your number Will, of necessity, be smalll The rest of us, however, need not despair. There is another group of immortals to Which all of us may belong. I am thinking of the Hall of Fame ot the Unsung Great. Here you Will find the soldiers Who suffered at Valley Forge, the pioneer mothers who helped to carve out an empire in the West, the men who gave themselves to Walter Reed's experiments. Their names We have forgotten, their deeds We shall never forget. The World needs illus- trious leaders, just as truly does it require legions of Worthy followers. In the latter pantheon, each of us may find a niche. un., Q If I cannot do great things, I can do small things in a great Way. Most of us Will never see our statues in a Hall of Fame. H position there is attained by great ability or an unusual combination of perseverance, ability, and favoring circum- stance. H pedestal is, moreover, an uncertain and isolated position. Many, having attained the top, have found it very slippery. So don't feel too disappointed if you cannot climb the dizzy height. ' The main Work of the World is, after all, done by those Whose names are not blazoned abroad, Faithfulness, plodding perseverance in the face of discouragement and obstacles, attention to little duties keep this gay old World from going astray. lf you cannot do great things, do small things in a great Way -With enthusiasm, With courage, with a laugh. FLORENCE B. BEITENMAN Vice Principal
