CAPTAINS CAPTAIN ZELMA SUMLIN Football Captain Sumlin has made a fine captain in football this year. His decisions were always agreeable to his team mates. He would encour- age his team to do better and make the best of a team just as a cap- tain should. CAPTAIN LASLEY DOWNES Baseball Captain Downes was always on the job and led his team, which was a great help in practice. His team mates were always ready to do as he said. Captain Downes gets great credit for the working machine in base ball. CAPTAIN HERVEY MANGHAM Basketball Captain Mangham did not only make a good captain, but a leading player as well. His team knew that he would be as good player as captain. (f= ■iljiii ' iiiii i iini i i iii i ii i i ni i ii i imi iii ii iii »m i i «miiiill 5 Page Seventy-nine

His opponents would soon learn that vhey couldn ' t win the game over him. He was mentioned as an All State man. We hope to hear of Zelmar being a strong force on some freshman team next season. LASLEY DOWNES. Quarterback Lapley wa ' ; always ready to tell his teammates how the next gain was to be made. Lasley won the praise of the fans when he received the punt from Oak Grove in the first quarter and ran eighty-five yards for the first six points. Ho was judged by many critics to be the best foot- ball player on the team. He was good on line buck- ing, end runs, both passing and receiving passes and did most of the punting. DAVID MITCHELL. Full Back David was mentioned as an all-state ful back. He proved that his line plunging was better than any opponent he met throughout the year. Very few gains were made through the center of the line ov ?r David. We will always remember his playing in Wisner and Monroe games and especially the Oak Grove game. David ran thirty-five yards through Oak Grove ' s line for a touchdown. David is ihe next year ' s Captain. He will head the list for next year. L. C. O ' NEAL, Right Guard L. C. was a gridironer that his team-mates, his coach and fans liked to see on the gridiron. His mind was busy, he said nothing and di his best on both defense and offense. L. C. will make a good player on some college team next year. He was mentioned as an all-state guard. Lasley Downes goes through Oak Grove ' s line for an eight yard gain. David Mitchell is running interferente. Page Eighty-one
