PUBLIC LIBRARY H HH II I! 509449 4 IN'J h t g C'f On the Road to Riches To avoid going through life penniless, many have turned to part-time jobs. There comes a time in life when the 15 dollar allowance from Mom doesn't quite cover all the expenses, so the hunt began for that perfect job. Today, society demands Calvin Klein, Preludes, and Fedorats; not Toughskins, station wagons, and Dairy Queen. Many help to cover the costs of their expensive lifestyles by mowing lawns, working in department stores, babysitting, or flipping burgers at McDonalds. While some were out buying clothes, others were planning ahead and saving those hard-earned bucks for college. The one thing that everyone had in common was the decrease in free-time, although most agreed having their own money was well worth the sacrifice. Raytown South is the place to be for spirit. Without spirit and enthusiasm, school would be a dreadful place to be. Pep rallies are put on by the cheerleaders every Friday to get our players and students psyched for the game. Pep pals support their player by decorating their locker and sending them goodies. The Cardinal fans, dressed in the traditional red and white, begin piling into the stadium about 7 pm. Banners have been hung throughout the stands. As the team. rushes out and bursts through the banner, it is not unusual to see balloons flying through the air. The Pep Band performs the anthem and alma mater, and the cardinal players rush on to another victory. Not only because of the harassment the new students receive from the upper classmen because they are first year students, but also because of all the pressure that has been placed on them by their peers. Even though, this still hasn't stopped the progress of our 1985-86 Freshman. Not even the involvement in post school activiites such as sports, school clubs, and the fall musical have hindered the achievements of them. In fact, 144 of the Freshmen enrolled here at Raytown South made the honor roll in the first quarter. Copy and layout by Dermi; DeWitt. Photography by Kelli Plymell. Card inals 422p? Ships are not built to stay in the harbor; therefore people are like ships - We must leave the security of our harbor many times and make many voyages of which we are not sure. High school .is an important voyage because it is one of our first. We have now reached the end of this voyage and have memories of good friends and a successful journey. During this time, we have made many friends and lived through many experiences that will help us in voyages to come. e Treasure these memories of the people and places we have encountered 23nd the things we have accomplished but let this be a small voyage in comparison to what each of us will accomplish in the future. Each voyage must now take us farther away from out harbor and we must always reach for the horizon. Remember: ships are safe in the harbor, but thatls not why ships were built. We listen and hear The glorious sound, Together. And, when it moves us so much That we feel like dancing - We do. And, when it moves us so much That we feel like crying e We do. And, When it doesnlt sound quite right, We put our arms around each other Until it plays a fitting melody, Orchestra and choir. When the time is right, And together we grow tired of listening, We join in and sing. When we grow tired of singing, We conduct. And, when we grow tired of leading, We once again put our arms around each other. And, we listen. e Kirsten Blaney .-.,. , 14,....,, 1,. SHON ABELN Track 1, 2; Wrestling 1 ROBERT E.
