You have finished your childhoodg you're graduated from high school and must face the demanding adult world around you. It is novv time to store Barbies and G.l. Joes in the toy box of carefree nonresponsibility. But as you seal this box, be sure to cherish your childhood by saving: naivity to understand simple beauty: strength to withstand the pressures of this vvorldg and patience to believe in yourself. Retain your youthful expectations to carry yourself as far as the heavens, for you are the world the next generation must live with, either in unison or dissention. Above all retain the attitude of love, for it is a feeling or emotional concern that freely accepts another and seeks his goodness. This Brother, is what it's all about. You can't make it alone. Brith is from Bangfund, Norway. Brith's interests varied from basketball and reading to needlework and music. An enjoyable discovery was that of pies and tacos, both of which were DSW T0 her. A member of A.F.S. club, N.H.S., and Student Council, Brith enjoyed the activeness of clubs. Brith's travels includ- ed St. Louis, New York, Worlds of Fun, and the American Floyal. Carolyn, Marilyn and Sharon Cage were Brith's American sisters. At right is lVlr. Cage, Brith. Carolyn, Marilyn, IVIrs. Cage, and Sharon. To everyone at Flaytown South: It was August 27,1973. I had left my country a month ago. This day my experiences at South, and the most exciting part of my life started. First of all, I felt scared on the school bus, where everybody was talking in a different language, one that seemed so hard to under- stand. Then the school with the huge halls, my locker that my brother, Lon, had to open for me because I didn't know which way I had to turn to. And last, the teachers and students. Now I started to think about all these things that happened to me during the past 1 O months, and I know now how I learned about people and their feelings, the United States, and how I grew a little bit. And now what I have to say is that all these things were possible because of each of you: the administration, the teachers, 'WWW 4'9?7 trying to understand and help rne, the people in the cafeteria, my family, that was marvelous with me, the students that accepted me, not as a foreign guy but someone that was a member of their community and their school. -L 'x. You know, it's hard to express how I'm feeling now that I have to leave soon. I really don't have words to say thank you to everybody, especially for you who were my friends, that helped me very much, that made it possible for me to share all of your clubs, that showed me your way of life, your feelings, you school system, that asked me about my country, that made me happy . . .Thank you very much for letting me be myself. I love my country, I love the United States, but more than anything, I love everyone of you! ' Thanks . . . ,4EO,vviqr ole -flzqcat, jg QXQCS, f.. Edmar found the language and the time change to be the most difficult things to ad- just to. But the relationship between friends and the clothes were also different in some ways. Edmar was an active member of the AFS club, Photography club, and Student Council. During his stay, Edmar traveled to the Lake of the Ozarks, New York, , Washington, Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois. The Baytown South Car- dinal Sophomore football team ended a very successful year vvith a record of 7 vvins, 1 loss, and 1 tie. This tied the record of the previous Sophomore team of 7 vvins, which is the record for the number of vvins in one season for a Varsity or Sophomore team. The Sophomore level is primarily to prepare the young Cardinal football players for the level of competition in High School Athletic play. A very significant fact about this team is that Flay-South Football teams have never vvon a football game north of the river. This year both the Varsity and Sophomore teams achieved this goal. The Varsity, by defeating Winnetonka and the Sophomores by defeating N.K.C. One night out of the school year all of Flaytovvn South's lVlusic Departments get together and hold a concert in which each group plays what they plan to take to the District Music Contest. For the second time in the last three years the orchestra traveled to Jefferson City to participate in the lVl.lVl.E.A. At the end of 1 st quarter, Pep Squad was without a President, a Secretary, and Sergeant at Arms, ineligible because of grades. Within the next month Becky Payne became the new president, Carol Falkner, secretary, for second quarter, and Lorie Werner as Sergeant at Arms. Pep Squad sponsored their annual dance, Threshold of a Dream, vvhere Mr. and Miss Spirit were announced. Pep Squad's money making projects included selling Dixie T-Shirts, souvenirs at the Chiefs' games and spirit ribbons before each game. There were three Cardinal mascots vvho helped to promote spirit at all football and basket- ball games. These girls vvere Lorie Hall, Kim Berie, and Becky Herell. The Senior assembly displayed the excellent talent of the 1974 Senior class. The theme of the assembly was Nostalgia which was por- trayed by a series of events from 1946 to 1974. Some of the major attractions included the Slims Bar scene in which Ted Mon- togue, Karen McGaven, Diane Vaughn and Jess Bushyhead boogied to the tune of a 1946 hit. Beth Carney, Jennifer Anderson and Emily Rowan harmonized to a song originally cut by the Andrew Sisters. Stereotypes of per- sonalities familiar to us all were made into skits by Kurt Morrison, Jan Meyers, Brad Howard, Paul Rutherford and our own Bud Lathrop portrayed by Kenny Ken- nierm. An act from the 6O's was relived when Ms. Mike Trecharky sang of her lover The Leader of the Pack. David Watt commandered his Hellsangels: Matt Rizzo, Dale LaMont. Andy Estes and Corey Robb to this famous tune. Other Nostalgia included the Cardettes swinging to Hey Big Spender and an outstanding display of musical ability and talent by Randy Miller, Marc Richardson, David Thurman and Dave Coker. This years Senior Assembly was un- doubtedly one of the very best. OPPOSITE PAGE: TOP RIGHT: Randy Miller and his mean machine.
