Lois E. cook MARY WIGGINS LOUISE SMITH English English English Busy, busy, busy--is the word which best describes Raytown's inveterate art teachers. Miss Esther,Packard, aRaytown instructor for twelve years, and Miss Dorothy Mitchell, who has been with us for seven years, both obtained their Bachelor of Science degrees from Kansas State College in Pittsburg, and their M,A, degrees from Colorado State College of Education, ' In addition to teaching and making posters, banquet covers and other artistic displays, they find time for a variety of interesting hobbies. Although Miss Packard is extremely busy working on her book about general art, she manages 'to spend some time with other favorite activities, such as taking beautiful color slides and practicing with her .22 rifle. Miss Mitchell has devoted her spare week-ends to renovating a pictur- esque, 85-year old homestead. If you were to drive up the long tree-lined driveway leading to the two-story house, youwouldprobably see Miss Mitchell and Miss Packard industrious ly hammering, remodeling the beautiful and still sturdy structure. They have also made their own portable furniture, including: two chairs, a double bar, six bar stools, a TV table, a bookcase, two coffee tables and a 7' lamp, , During the Christmas season their house is aglow with decorations from roof to cellar, One might be in a fantasy world, surrounded by breath-taking still life studies--and of course, all of this work bears their own personal mark of distinction. But all year round we at Raytown can enjoy their craft- manship, for, as you've probably guessed, the murals in the library are an example of their work. too. ROBERT C. SCHUPP GEORGE E.
