Jerry Lau, Charles Gibbs, Jon Gathright currently starred on the new Vernon Hart Gummy Gum Drop Show . Fred Patterson and Pat Norton, lead- ing lady and man in Danny Munger's newest production Murder on l0th Street , re- cently joined Joyce Sides and Carolyn Shaon in Hollywood to film a new picture. atlve from each of the forty-three home rooms plus officers selected at large from the entire school, enables the high school pupils to have a voice in their own govemment and to function cooperatively for the good of the entire group. They sponsored the magazine drive and sold food at the basketball games to secure money for intercom payments plus financial assist- ance for various departments . They planned assembly programs throughout the year and published student handbooks and student di- rectories. They compiled the social code and coped with problems arising within the school. They conducted student elections and helped' the Raytown Jaycees sponsor the Sno-Ball Dance. The Rayflector Staff has as its purpose to enqaerlence practical application of methods learned in journalism class, and to publish the school paper, The Rayflector. Field trips concerning the Staff were to the Kansas City Star, the Raytown News, and the Thomas J. Erwin Printing Company. The W. P.A. fWomen Pay Alll Dance was sponsored by the Staff in the cafeteria. Ken Clayton, formerly from the Chicago Tribune and presently editor of the Raytown News, spoke to the staff on general reporting . The purpose of the Brush and Pallet Club is to develop an interest in art activities plus decorating the school cafeteria, and other places in the school building, for various seasonal occasions. The club has an ini- tiation and several social events during the year. The highlight of the year was an ed- ucational tour of the Nelson Art Gallery. The Stage Crew, the group that works to further the effect of the production of all drama work by building and changing scenery and settings. The crew was responsible for the interesting lighting effects and the changes of scenery between acts of various stage productions. 'ine purpose of the Band, aside from a regular class, is instrumental education. The Band played at the Missouri University vs Oregon State football game at Columbia last fall. They played at both the Christmas and Spring concerts, and performed at the State Music Festival in April. Modern Music Masters act as a stu- dent congress for the music department and to encourage participation of members in other music activities. The MMM is the youngest of clubs in R.H.S. Its officers were formally initiated in February. The ceremony was given by the North Kansas City Club and was open to the public. The Orchestra offers opportunities for its members to participate in rich musical experiences which also give them the chance to improve their individual playing abilities. The organization was responsible for the following events: Winter Concert, Spring Concert, and one Assembly Program. The Pep Squad purpose is to promote along with the student oouy, a sense of loyalty to the athletic teams. The Pep Squad events were: Homecoming Football Queen, Basketball Queen, pep assemblies, and their annual formal dance. The club is in charge of the election of cheerleaders, and the decorations for the football and basket- ball banquets . Girls' Glee Club and Boys' Glee Club are two organizations that offer an opportunity of voice study, of music reading and of ex- perience in the singing of fine choral lit- erature. Events of the year include: Winter Concert in R. H. S. Auditorium, Spring Concert in R.H.S. Auditorium, and the State Music Festival in Columbia, Missouri. The Choir helps in teaching correct vocal technique, encourages participation, and gives an opportunity to study and appre- ciate good music. The Cholr's calendar this year: Singing for the Kiwanis Club of Raytown, the Missouri State Teachers Association in the Municipal Auditorium, the annual Winter Concert, Epiphany service in the new Raytown Park, a program for Belton, Missouri CBelton High Schoolj. Other singing dates this spring: Good Friday Service at the Raytown Baptist Church, Easter Assembly, Spring concert, State Music Festival, and the Commencement. Our librarians helped to familiarize students with the various categories of books and have tried to crea'te interest in reading worth-while books . The main purpose of F.T.A. is to bring forth to those students who are interested in teaching something of the teaching profession as it is in both the good and the bad aspects of the teaching field. This year they have taken part in Teacher's Day at Raytown High School, visited a convalescent home, and sponsored the movie Desk for Billie , which was showr. to the student body of Raytown High School. The Speech and Dramatics Club strives to increase interest in all types of speech and drama. Membership and letters are acquired by participation in plays and other drama work. The club's activities included their annual initiation and banquet. The Y-Teens are sponsored by the Y. W. C.A. of Raytown. Their goal is to promote Christian living among the young people. The Senior Y-Teens is open to any junior or senior girl. Thanksgiving and Christmas, the club gave baskets of food to needy families. In February five club representatives attended the Tri-City Conference. Some of the out- standing acts in their annual assembly were: Frosty, Ballet, and the senior and junior line. To round out a busy year, there was a Mother- Daughter Banquet and formal dance with reigning queen. Junior Y-Teen club projects were: - Shampoo sale, Christmas caroling, Clothes drive for the Jackson County Parental Home, and a Bake sale. Science Club members increased their scientific knowledge by participating in such activities as: taking a trip to U.S. Gypsum, collecting and identifying fossils, and pre- paring a project for the Science Fair. Social activities included initiation ceremonies and attending open house at William Jewel College. latin Club members believe that a know- ledge of the ancient Greek and Roman civil- ization gives a more comprehensive under- standing of the modern world. Their monthly meetings are planned to promote this theory. Among the club's events were: a movie, Vesuvius fonnal installation, Christmas play, and an informal discussion with a guest speaker concerning Germany. A spring picnic brought the year's activities to a close. Teen Town Council is in charge of planning all the recreation at Teen Town which is held in the student lounge. They sponsored the dancing on Friday nights, which included the Crazy Hat Dance, Saint Pat.rick's Day Dance, and Royal Crown Cola Dance. The purchasing of twenty new records a month was one of the many things that the council has done in order to make Teen Town a place to have a lot of fun. The Spanish Club believes that promoting better understanding of the Latin American countries by increasing their knowledge of life and customs of the people, is the goal for the Spanish Club. Their programs have included movies of a bullfight, Mexico and Puerto Rico, guests who spoke about France and Germany, and their formal initiation. A talent show and picnic in the spring rounded out the year's activities. R-Club is an honorary organization and only boys who have lettered in one of the major sports are eligible for membership. Encour- aging good sportsmanship and creating more interest in athletics is their goal. The boys gave candy to the faculty members and clothing to a needy family at Cl-u'istmas. They also sponsored the Faculty vs Girls' Basketball and the Boxing Show. At the end of football sea- son, they have an initiation for all those boys who had lettered in football for the first time. The club ended its year with a second initiation for those boys who had lettered in basketball and track for the first time. The Hi-Y purpose is to create, maintain, and extend, throughout the school and commun- ity, hlgh standards of Christian character. During the spring, things were really buzzing with the Hi-Y: A Formal Dance and Variety Show, a trip to the Lake of the Ozarks, and service projects. Other highlights of the year included a Youth and Government Con- ference at Jefferson City, a Father and Son Program, and a Hi-Y Day. The Future Homemakers of America are learning better ways to live today in order to be better Homemakers tomorrow. A fonnal installation of officers and an initia- tion began the year. F. H.A. Week included church day, publicity day, school day, family day, good deed day, and community day, and was concluded with the social day when they held their annual dance.
