L, '4 n SENIOR CLASS PROPHECY 'PLACE-A PSYCHIATRISTS OFFICE TIME 1966 You see Doctor, we came to see you because of your reputation Not only have you been highly recommended to us, but your fame is known throughout the length -and breadth of the Continent as Doctor J. Hensley, the greatest mode-rn psychiatrist in the nation. As we were still undetermined as to our choice of psychiatrist, we 'were ve-ry happy to hear that you had completely rehabilitated the neurotic, but very weathy bachelor, Mr. Cecil Shelton, to his former .healthy menta'l status. We offer you S10,000, Doctor Hensley, to help us overcome our 'trouble :and ke-ep us from obtaining any publicity about our condi- tion. If our mental condition should be known to the public, it 'would greatly harm our social position in New York. This, Doctor, is the situation. Miss Hall and I have found that after twenty-five years of spinsterhoed, our formerly brilliant minds have become strangely affected. When we see unfamiliar faces on 'the streets, they become familiar and we believe them to be our old high school friends grown twenty-five years older since last 'we saw them. In allother ways, I can assure you, Doctor, that we are completely normal. Yesterday,'walking down Broadway, we stepped into the fruit 'and vegetable palace and, surprisingly enough, found Wilford Pis- ciotta, grown round. and rosy in middle age, selling New York its 'fresh fruits and vegetables. Mr. Pisciotta, is well-known. as the man 'who brought the vegetable business to Broadway and made it prosper. After using S50 of our great wealth to aid Mr. Pisciotta to make living for his attractive wife, the form-er Jean Legg, we wandered farther down Broadway, where we found Mrs. Alfred Brandt, the former Marietta Collins, rhumbaing cn the Great White Way. 'while husband Alfred gives his all to the Metropolitan Opera. Turning down Fifth Avenue, we wandered idly into Sacs, Fifth .Avenue Shoppe where strangely enough we found Wilma Vance selling shoe strings at far counter. Wimpy always -wanted to peddle shoe strings on the 'road 'to Mandalay, but after seeking 20 years ifor that famous hiway, finally chose Sacs as the place in which tosettle down in her old age. By the way, Wilma told us that our old friend Harold Stillwell coaching football at Notre Dame, his able assistant being M'uzzy'i Corrigan. Wimpy said that, at Muzzy's insistence, Harold finally 'agreed to purchase all the team's shoe laces from her as a gesture 'of 'auld lang sync. We are told. that Harold is having quite a bit of trouble from the Womens Frazier. Before go at two portly there. ' ' By this time we had found ourselves in front of the soft drink parlor -of Kenneth Farrand and Lloyd Snoddy and so we stopped in for a lemonade. We were waited on by a clumsy waitress Who reminded us of Ethel M-ae Schultz who nearly ruined Miss I-Ial1's transformation by spilling two cherry cokes. Meeting a policeman we inquired as to our directio-ns. When we found that he was Le Roy Lewis, we forgot his answer. But he did say that last week he ha.d been terribly upset over having to run Leon Bo-sse, a very old friend, in. Leon, it pains me state, had been caught stealing ice cream from little Junior Kraas When. he had been a guest at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Kraas. Mrs. Kraas is better known to us as Lou Vance. Also present fat the time of the crime was Mr. and Mrs. John Pfieffer. Mrs. Pfieffer is the former Virginia Whitaker. Mr. Pfieffer is a prominent New York Ford manufacturer, who smokes black cigars to lend him dignity. Butkthe incident ended happily, for Leon knew the dignified judgexittox be Jack Shelton of his school darys. Leon has a lot -of political pnlliin New York, it seems, for he is often seen in the company of John Stokely, the famous political boss of the great metropolis. While hitting one of the well known night spots, Leon met one of his former buddies, Paul Crow, wh-o now owns and operates the Stork Club- on the 'West coast. He had flown East to contract a trombone player, Miss G-oldla. Cunningham, as a member of the club's orchestra. After spending over an hour rehashing school dayswith LeRoy we started so as not to be late for our app-ointment. We stopped to look in an attractive Window of an interior decorating shop and found three young women arranging models for display. They were Virginia Himes, Mary Martha Shelton and Evelyn Woodman. ' Qlancing at our England comipany manufactured watch We realized that we must hurry indeed. In our haste, We narrowly missed upsetting Gloyd Short and Marion Conway, who were post- in.g billboards and closely averted being spilled by a speeding fire engine driven blyv Stanley Pearson and Robert Lewis. Hanging on the back was fireman Ed. Morris. v Well Doctor, we have safely arrived to seek your advice. Thank you. We are very happy to hear that it is no more ser- ious than -an overdeveloped appetite for cokes in combination with our advanced age. On entering the :loo-rwasy of our school, they set out to make a brilliant hf story for themselves. To properly induct these energetic youngsters into school rou- tine, a Freshman intiatien was held in October. After successfully withstanding the initiation, the class became a working part of the schocl systgm. This they did, by holding an election in which they electefi Edwin I-Iinklelv as class president, Betty Jo POWSU, ViC9-D'F9Sifl9I1'f- iMargaret Stratemeier, secretary, and Elizabeth Hall, treasurer. Mrs. Clark Fegert and Mr. Clyde Cooper are the sponsors. The efforts of the members in the music Held are to be congra- tulated, Elizabeth and Margaret Stratemeier have achieved much 'success in that field. Betty Jo Powell, Elizabeth 'Hall and Patty Sullivan. were chosen to represent the Freshman Class as Pep Squad members. This class has also achieved, some measure of success in athletic activities. The following boys went out for football: Wayne Gar- rison, Jerry Ingram, Jim Robinson, Herbert Shelton, .and Dwayne 'Winters if The folloiwing boys were on the basketball squad: 'Leo Carmeack, 'Leon Hatcher, Everett Lewis, Donald Morris, Edwin Prigel, Herbert 5Shelton, Edwin Varner, and Dwayne Winters. 'Margaret Stratem-eier lettered in basketball. Mary Jane Celia 'Mildr-ed Finney, Margaret George, Billie Kayo, Margery Simmons, and Patty Sullivan were on the squad. John Allen, Gene Bartleson, Leo Ciarinack, Jfoe Davis, Leon Hatcher, Jerry Ingram, Everett Lewis, Donald Morris, Edwin Prigel, Herbert Shelton, and Dwayne Wiiiteifs went out for baseball, The following Freshman. made the Honor roll the first semester: 'Doris Buckner, Charlene Bordner, Patsy Bennett, Joan Burton, Adella Curran, Elizabeth Hall, Leon Hatcher, Norma Kuhn, 'Betty Murray, Rosemary Wilson, and Ma.rg-aret Stratemeier. e A class party was held in Mar-ch, which was acclaimed success- ful by all who attended. This party was a mixer in form. The Freshman will probably plan a picnic sometime this spring. Due to limited space, we regret that we cannot completly A' list all of the Freshmen who have taken part in school activities, but we should like to -commend the work of all the class members in Girl Reserve, the music department, home economics, the sciences, and industrial arts. 1 X rf. - x XX ' SSX' ff:-:ie 901 1n 1940 X. es e personalues ut, To ma? do school mu te successfullx ng part of thi. J P CHEMISTRY The Commencement of the school year of 1940-41 observed fan- other expansion in the ever increasing breadth of curricula and activities offered to the students of Raytown High School. The Board of Education, realizing the importance of a basic knowledge chemistry applicable to the normal pursuance oi our life, instituted a course for its study, the first in the history of the school. :Since it was the first chemistry class, a very definite and real problem existed-that of out-fitting the laboratory. Through the efforts of the building mainterrance men this was done at a nominal fee. The cost was cut down to a great extent by using the school's own resources in making laboratory tables and piping in iwater and gas. Instruments and chemicals necessary to equip twenty-four students were provided: however twenty-six are enrolled in the cl-ass. Several others were refused admittance because of the limit- ed accomodations. The class promises to be one of the most popular in school and rightly sog for it contains within its scope vital and interesting information. Raytown High School progessively normal in its aspect, has followed the general trend in oifering chemistry to students desir- ing' knowledge on this sub-ject. l BIOLOGY Biology has been offered at Rraytown for two years, Mr. C. C. Cooper is the teacher. There are thirty-three students enrolled this year. There are four main proiects to be accomplished durin the - . I 8 year. They are: collect and identify twenty-five insects, second. collect and classify leaves and fruits of twenty-five different trees' third. draw land color twenty-live of the 'common birds of this locali- ty, doing some research work concerning each bird. such as learning th ' ' e call or the habits. The last project of the year is to mal: T e a heobarium by collecting and classifying twenty-five flowering plants. In the lab-oratory work som mf th t X- V- we 5 e hings accomplished are: growing plants under favorable and unfavorable conditions, keeping a balanced aquarium, preparing protozoan culture, and practicing taxidermy. Some of the fields studied are meal planning and table service, Food and Nutrition, Personality and Good Grooming, Clothing Se- lection rand Construction, Costume Designing, Etiquette, Furnishing of the Home, Child Carle, Family Relationships, Home management, Home nursing, and consumer education. This y-ear we have organized a Future Home Makers Associa- tion. The following girls eare eligible for the thrid degree, which is the Future Homemaker of Raytown: Wilma Vance, Dorothy Blue, Dorothy Rice, Nancy Nell Shelton, Marguerite Van Lanker, Ella Mae Brandt, Mary Bess Hinrichs, Lauranelle Miller and Rosalie Grim. 4, A Wilma Vance and Nancy Nelle Shelton won first place in cloth- ing at the Warrensburg District Contest. , Ella Mae Brandt and Dorothy Blue won first place in Home Nursing at the Warrensburg District Contest. LIBRARIANS The librarians are chosen by a fa-culty committee. They must be interested in books, must be accurate- and must be willing to help other students. Mrs. George Clark is the head librarian. The head student li- brarian is Dorothy Rice-. The- other student librarians are Dorothy Blue, Vincent Rieger, Lucille Brown, Evelyn Woodman, Fredeana Rice, Lee Roy Lewis, Doris Oldham., and Mary Martha Shelton, MANUAL TRAINING When Industrial Arts was first taught in our high school four years ago, only one unit was offered to those taking the course. This year three units were offered in Industrial Arts which included a course in drafting, machine woodworking, and general shop. Many arts and crafts have been added to the curriculum, so that now those who enroll in the In.dustrial Arts Department have the opportunity to develop skills in several fields which might be the determining factor in helping them to outline ia career or put to profitable use their leisure tim-e in the years to come. - The knowledge gained in industrial arts is put to practical use almost ever-y daiy during the year, by doing many various jobs that are brought to our shop by other departments in the school. In bookbinding we have bound many books and magazines for our shop and the library. This year's Ramizzou was bound in the industrial arts department, 'a job of which we are Justly proud. 1 SCHO0L CALENDAR SEPTEMBER 2 First day of school 2 Band plaryed for opening of school year 12 Activity tick-et drive begins 20' Football game at Rich Hill-Score 14-0 in favor of Raytown 23 P. A. The. Parent-Teachers' association is -one of the most iniiuential factors in high school life. It has long been a part of our school and each year it proves itself more essential. u The first ice cream social and band concert of the summer con- tributed greatly toward the financing of this year's work, Mrs. Messmer resigned the presidency because she had moved from the district. Mrs. Charles Buckner was elected in her place. Other officers are: Mrs. Shyrock, vice-pres.g Mrs. Giese, seleretaryg Mrs. Walgren., treasurerg and Mrs. 1-Iinrichs, corresponding secretary. The Parent Teach-ers' association sponsored the physical and dental examinations given to the students in the fall. The parent education committee was combined With the program committee this year. The principal idea was that of presenting t0 parents a cross-section of school routine. This gives parents a chance to see the work done by the students that ordinarily they would be unable to see. Each meeting a department of the school is open for inspection by the members. The students are Working at their places as usual and their work is on display. The manual training, scienice and home economics departments have given pro- grams. Mrs. Addison Cox is this year's program chairman. Her assistant is Mrs. Grim. Onle especially nice gesture, made by the association this year, was the donation of curtains for the community room. These were purchased from a special fund le-it from last year's treasury. Mrs. Cox and Mrs. Hinrichs constituted the committee for the selection of the material. Several members of the association with the help of the home ec. department made and hung the curtains in the community POCJH1.. After purchasing the curtains, a part of the mon-ey was left which was put into a fund to be used next year or whenever the study hall is redfecora-ted. It will be used in some Way to improve the study hall. Another nice gesture by the P.-T. A. was the luncheon for the music contest. The association prepared the luncheon for the music contest in April. All of the proceeds Were used toward the school dencit.
