Independence, MO 64055 f 3 0000 1319 Panther King On October 24, the Panther Royalty was announced and John Harper was chosen as the reigning king. At that time he was not even aware the con- test was taking place. During his past high school years, John has been very involved in school activities. In sports, he has been a var.- sity letterman in football for three years, a three-year letterman in track I and was one of four team captains in football. He has excelled greatly in football; he was chosen for the all con- ference team his sophomore year and in his senior year, again made the team as the punter, kicker and offensive back for the second team, and a defen- sive line backer for the first team. Other activities he has been involved with include Varsity Club, National Honor Society, Foreign Language Club and Honor Band for three years. John's future plans include attend- ing college, but he is undecided as to which one and plans on going into the veterinary field. V74 heall W. 10' I. 3.! Kathyis reaction was one of complete surprise, just as any girl's would have been had they been bestowed this honor. During her four years at Ray-Pec, Kathy has been active in activities. For three years she has been involved in basketball and volleyball in which she was all conference her junior and senior year. She also participated on the track team for one year. Academically, Kathy served as president of the N.H.S. and as the editor of the literary magazine the Apocalypse. She also was active in the Varsity Club and F.L.C. Kathy also was chosen her senior year for Whois Who in American High School Students . Kathy quoted her post-graduation plans as going to college at Avila for a nursing degree and then to marry and have children. Basic fundamentals like throw- ing on the wheel and hand building are taught so the student can make same- thing in which they prefer. Students spend their spare time partici- pating in such activities as sports, cheerleading, musi- cals and various clubs. When the 3 o'clock bell rings many students either go to work or they have practice of some sort after school. This year's football team was unique in many ways. They played as a team, they had pride. determination arid played each game with a winning attitude. . This team was the closest team I haVe ever coached in l3 years. They had great leadership from the captains and all the way through the entire squad. They were a step alone from the other teams in the past. I would like to thank my coaching staff for all the time and effort they contributed to this year's season. It was a successful season because we were a family. Werlaughed together, we worked together,we cried together, we lost together, and most of all, we won together. We learned three important factors of life; how to work hard, to get results. and have a sense of responsibility. The athletes on this year's team have set the tone for a winning program. . Coach Sullins and assistant Coach Ritter ISWBasketball The Varsity Girls Basketball team fought through some very trying times, and won only 33$ of their games this season. The girls played. without a doubt, the toughest schedule in the confer- ence, and for a ung team, did very well. Perhaps playing good teams like Nevada, O'Hara, Kearney, and Ruskin made their re- cord look less impressive, but it is a schedule like this that will advance and improve our basketball players for future years. It seemed as though ev- eryone was bigger than we were this year, but much to our credit we were not out rebounded this season. We had a lot of hustle, desire, and the improve- ment was there, and evi- dent as the season went on. My thanks go to the Sen- iors for three years of hard work. My best wishes go to each of you. All the wrestlers seemed to care about each other by helping out when needed and trying hard to improve each other. The 'family' attitude helped develop a good unified team; one that hasn't been seen before. It's this attitude that will make them champions. 37 3I 3rd Place 33 35 6th Place , l71thHState 1! The tournament was held on February l3-l4. 198I at Columbia, Missouri, and Kevin is the first ath- lete in our school's history to ever win state honors. There were approximately 400 schools represented and there were l6 wrestlers in Kevin's weight class. He pinned three of his four op- ponents and he also posted the state's fastest pin of the tournament in 29 sec- onds. Kevin finished his high school career with an overall record of 77-30. These young athletes displayed both a great team spirit and a good attitude to- ward work. They worked together to- ward a common goal, a successful wres- tling program.
