L Y' peecfz :Department The speech department of the school was represented m the followmg contests On February 26 the Dlstrxct Speech contest was held at Vtrden I-hgh School The students entered and the1r ratmgs were Phylhs Foster flrst rn both verse speakmg and oratlon Evelyn Waterman second ln humorous readmg and Evelyn Harper hfth tn dramatxc reading These ratings entitled Phyllis Foster and Evelyn Waterman to go to the Sectional meet which was held at Lmcoln There Phyllis recewed thxrd place an oratnon and ninth place tn w er se speakmg Evelyn recelved fourth place in humorous readmg At the C M S Llterary and Music Meet the total amount of pomts for all the speech work was greater than any other school and a trophy was received At the Mid Plams contest at Rochester Evelyn Harper won first place ln dramatic readxng Phyllis Foster second in oratnon and Helen Bloome receu ed fourth ln humorous reading The gurls owe their success to Mrs Edna McConathy thexr coach who devoted so much tune and effort to them ull!!
