lmespiana The glamour of the spot-light lured many an unsuspected artist from the tall timber. Thirty-six of these fugitives from the hills became Thespians and parked their rifles long enough to give out with some real talent. Irene Zemny was elected president, with Betty Switzer, vice president: Helen Gurr secre- tary: and Miss Curry, adviser. An initiation party for new members, and a grubstake in the nature of a potluck dinner were the high spots of fun. The program for Clean-Up day was sponsored by the Thespians and every other program depended on the talents of the club. Row 1: S. Turner, B. Sundling, P. Gilchrist, J. Leedoxn, H. Gurr, H. Scott Turner, Beverly Newman, and Gordon Dingman presented No Connection : Helmut Hebish, Emma Jo Chapman, and Jerry McKinney made A'Gcod Medicine easy to take. The mystery-thriller of the year was Reserve Two For Murder , with an all-star cast of Senior play acters . Tom Knitch, the dumb sergeant, Walter Kolcz, the dumber cop, and Jack Schultz, the suave Chinese detective, tried to pin the murder of Stan Urych on Doug Runyon, Elsie Sundling, Pat Gilchrist, Irene Zemny, Jim Gotsis, and Lennart Asplund. An- tagonized by a precocious little pest, La Wauna Oakes, and baffled by the strange disappear- ance of Sylvia Lybecker, the bulls finally slipped the noose around the neck of Katie King, but not before she had bumped off Margaret Anne Jenne. nnual Slab! A haggard gang of hill-billies came thru the ordeal of producing your 1943 Annual with the feeling that it had been fun. Headed for should we say bi-headedj by Co-Editors Sylvia Lybecker and Tom Knitch and censored by Miss McDougall, the staff felt right at home in Dogpatch. The ad collectors combed the hills like a corps of revenooers to bring in the money that made this production possible, and the write-up staffs spent hours learn- ing to spell so they could read what they hadwritten. Commercial Club Any yokel who can make a B average in commercial subjects is quickly grabbed by the Commercial Club and put to Work on the Sea Gull, or some other worthwhile proj- ect. Bosses of the outfit this year Were! Doris Humbert, president: Don Bale, vice president: and Roberta Croghan, secretary. The Dirt the club collects for the Seagull is sorted over by Miss Brenner, the adviser. Big scoop of the year was the Stamp No. 17 Ration dance sponsored by the club in March. Row 1: Miss Brenner, D. 'Seagull Staff Just to let the Mountaineers know what goes on in these parts, a bi-weekly scandal sheet, the Sea Gull is sent out regularly by pony-express. Editor, Margaret Anne Jenne, tech- nician, Evangeline Betrozoff: and a staff of reporters keep their ears to the ground and their eyes at the knothole so that nothing escapes them. A super business staff kept the ads coming in. SEAGULL STAFF fRightj Row 1: W. Kolcz, L. Burley, D. Bale, E. Zambas, Row 2: C. Conley, K. King, B. Townsend, M. Whit beck, E. Betrozoff, M.
