This trip was financed by the annual Mexican supper, given by the band each year. T. A., sponsoring school wide elections of Class favorites, cheer leaders and student body officers, sponsoring the Favorites' Dance, compiling and issuing the Student directory, selling Christmas cards, book covers, Fight Song records, megaphones, etc., are but a few of these various activities. ln order to do a better job as council members and officers and as representatives of the student body, the officers attend training workshop during the summer and this year the whole council held a workshop at the H. E. Butt Foundation Camp near Leakey, Texas. Two and one hqlf days concentrated on the What, Why, and How of Student Council work helped make the council function better all year and it is hoped that such a training program will become a regular part of the council activities. A constant search is made to find solutions to the problems confronting Ray and many other schools. By participating in conferences such as the Texas, Southern and National Associations of Student Councils, as well as into practice and much valuable experience in different phases of leadership is gained. As a result of this wide participation in Student Council activities Ray High School has had four persons se- lected to be among the l00 persons from councils throughout the United States to take part in the first European tour to be sponsored by the National Association. Plans for an International Relations Program for Ray have been submitted by the students who will make the tour and these plans will be improved following the summer and then will be put into effect next year. Ray Baseball Team which made quite a record for itself in 1953, 1954, and 1955 looks as if it's well on the road to reaching the top again this year, 1956. During the regular season of 1953, the team had an ex- cellent record of 15 wins and 2 losses and found itself in the state play-offs, atAustin. The team, having been de- feated in the first round of the play-offs, fought its way back up to the top in 1954, captured the district and bi-districts championships, and again went on to participate in the State Tournament in Austin.Once more in 1955 the Ray team climbed back up to the state tournament but once again lost in the first round. The team's new coach, A. J. Luquette, having only two starters from 1955 returning, is doing a fine job of rebuilding this year's team. As another Silver Spur goes to press, we are hoping that again next year we can print another wonderful record for the W. B. Ray Baseball Team.
