Wim' l .f ,. ka.-f'f 1 f Mrs. Russell White English ty . . 5 . ef' A 'E Peter Zarafonitis Mathematics ,MM X, A, 'Q ' If 'Q X 1 ff 1 1 2 , 'uw ,V 11, 'z , ffffEWf . .,,, ,K .,,, ffm f . 1- , ff' Uzf if, rw 1 ' X1 if? iwllfii -Qgfrzmifxfigq Q 'L-4 'Q-ri XA, v 1 s. f , 1 f In lookmg back over the past year we senxors real1ze that It has been one of wh1ch we can truly be p roud Because we are the very f1rst graduat1ng class of W B Ray we have g1ven a great many brand new trad1t1ons the1r start and It IS our hope that they w1ll be lastlng For 1nstance a good deal of the do or d1e St1Ck to the end sp1r1t whlch earned Ray the fme name The F1ght1ng Texans was contr1buted by us the sen1or class Th1s f1ght1ng sp1r1t meant not only support1ng our football and basketball teams when they were on top but also when th1ngs were not gomg qu1te so well It nourlshed fme sportsmanshlp and fr1endly rlvalry and taught us to both w1n and lose m sports and 1n all else w1th grace As a class our organ1zat1on d1d not really get under way unt1l early ln October when we held our f1rst meet 1ng for the purpose of electlng off1cers And the Fall really began to buzz w1th aCt1V1ty when the off1cers the councxl and our class sponsors had the1r frequent somet1mes thr1ce weekly meet1ngs to plan our money maklng projects These sesslons resulted 1n the sale of pretty scarlet and s1lver r1bbons bearlng such slogans as Tame the Tlgers and Bust the Bucs 1n the halls before school and durmg the pep rallles on game Frldays The proceeds of all th1s went to our sen1or act1v1ty fund and has also helped us to buy our sen1or glft for the school So went the Fall and when Wmter came It was full of plann1ng plann1ng all the b1g trad1t1ona1 events that were then stlll 1n the future for us We made dec1s1ons as to the Wheres and the Whens and we crammed our sen1or calendar full of noteworthy events As Aprll drew near all of us were fllled w1th expectatlon Durmg the f1rst s1x months of th1s past year most of us were average people who led qu1te normal l1ves but w1th the commg of Spr1ng all that was changed Then we found ourselves caught 1n the fabulous grand whlrl m wh1ch classman all the glory that goes w1th that maglc word sen1or The f1rst lmportant date clrcled on our sen1or calendar was that day to whlch we had looked forward for three years of h1gh school l1fe and wh1ch now belonged to us excluslvely the day when we were confronted w1th envlous stares from our freshmen sophomore and Junlor fr1ends and on wh1ch strangely enough very few sen1or names appeared on the offlce s absentee 11st Yes th1s was Aprll 12 the flrst sen1or p1cn1c of W B Ray A few weeks later another eagerly awalted event came to pass w1th the presentatlon of our sen1or play You Can t Take It W1th You 1n Wynn Seale aud1tor1um The product1on was unde r the expert d1rect1on of Mrs Evelyn N1col Ray s speech and drama teacher The cast made the most of the comedy packed lxnes of th1s record breakmg Play In add1t1on to all of th1s our sen1or soclal agenda was also packed w1th as many as t e n to f1ft e en pr1vate part1es per weekend Teas luncheons barbeques p1cn1cs dances and banquets these were all a part ofour schedule and a reasonably well balanced l1fe had become to the dellght of everybody practlcally non exlstent M1d May brought the real1zat1on that we were fast approa c hlng the cl1max of our soclal season For one enchanted evenmg late last week many of us made our gay entree 1nto sen1or dreamland We mean of course the prom The Plaza Deck where th1s gala affaxr was held was de c orat ed w1th g1gant1c sxlver spurs 1n a glamor1zed vers1on of our western theme that most of us won t soon forget Now that the greater part of the fr1volous s1de of our graduat1ng Spr1ng 1S over we are faced w1th the ser1 ousness that bemg a sen1or also br1ngs Because of the troubled cond1t1ons of the world we have wondered about the securxty of our future and about the goals that many of us have already set for ourselves 1n 11fe Last Sunday when we heard the trad1t1onal and 1nsp1r1ng Baccalaureate address many of our doubts and fears were qu1eted and we were f11l ed w1th strength to face whatever m1ght be ahead We all are anx1ously awa1t1ng the greatest n1ght of all our Commencement mght when w1th much pomp and ceremony we w1ll close th1s chapter of our l1ves Before us 15 the world , . . . . . . ,, . . ,, . .
