The main character in the play was Joe Pendleton, played by Mark Schultz. He was taken from Earth prematurely by a novice Angel, played by Scott Schuele and then returned in various other persons. This situation provided for some enjoyable comedy as Joe tried to convince all his friends of his former life that he had returned. The Class of 1981 sponsored a Prom that; out decorated, out classed, out did all past attendances. The theme was All Things are Possible, a song by Dan Peak. Thousands of dollars were spent on the decorations and band, but not as much as the previous class had spent. Water fountains were in the corners with dry ice and colored lights. Turf was laid beneath all the pine trees. A fantasy castle was welded and covered with foil to shine behind the King and Queen. The roof was a brand new thing at RHS. It was a double canopy made from two huge rings and pink, yellow, green, blue, orange and purple streamers. Two huge chandeliers were hung in the middle of them. Stars with shredded foil were hung around the canopies and bags of balloons were dropped when the Royalty was crowned. The entrance was of plastic pink, violet and baby blue streamer curtains, with a roof of modern design. David Russell and Bill Moon really pitched in. Here they are streaming the canopy roof. 145 No PiEst far THe LJLlEarg, TnilEd, DvErwarhEd . . . The officers are left to right: JoAnn Schimmel, Shelly McCord. Suzie Boggs, and Jayne Hembree The mighty Outlaws of ’81 started the year by putting on a terrific show during Outlaw Week. The Float Blow en Away Outlaws” was built at the Fairgrounds. The skit was full of action. Carolyn even had a knee operation because of the action. ’81 pulled out a second place overall. Football concessions were a major money project for the juniors. Popcorn was cranked out of an ancient machine. Hot apple cider and hotdogs cooked on a Coleman, and candy bars, gum and coke were eaten by hungry crowds. Magazine sales were the major project for all juniors, and this year it was no different. Team Captains were picked and teams assigned. The sponsors and office secretaries helped out a great deal. The spunky 81 kids went out and sold tapes, records, and magazines-, over $5,000 was earned. The money, of course, went to put on the best prom ol Ralph Logan has put up in years. The decorations were very imaginative, castles and rainbows and trees. There were six shades of pastel streamers that formed two canopies and lined the walls. In the middle of the canopies were two huge chandeliers to be used later at class reunions. The prom chairperson was Kim Schwindt, closely helped by Laureen Petersen. The turnout of twelve put together the prom in about 45 hours. The sponsors were there all the time working very hard. The Class of '81 did a super job for the seniors and had a rowdy time when Ivory played prom night. 179 Charles Allen Camis Ankrom Derrick Archuleta Judy Armentrout Jeff Askins Brian Austin Tony Avila Bonnie Baker Lori Barker Rod Barta 5trutirf their Stuff Jon Black Sally Blacksmith Kelly Blair Andre Blanchard Susie Boggs Kenny Baumgardner Eddie Beaulieu Kenny Beck Traci Belmain Robert Berquist Bob Bible Craig Bieber Carol Bielefeld Ann Binford 180 Sue Brasche Daren Brat hall Joey Bri$ter Marty Brister Dee Brown Jackie Carlile Reva Carpenter Mark Clark Challenging the Future Reagan Cooper Mark Corbett Ruben Bustamante Kelly Camp Candi Campbell Lori Campbell Jeff Clinton Todd Collins This junior prefers her pie in her face rather than in her mouth. 181 182 Mike Cor so Chris Cummings Kenny Cureton Shawne Elkins Kim Ellis Dorsee Fagnanl Farma Fames Denise Farquahr Claire Findley James Findley Debbie Ford Jo D Frinkman Brad Gablenz Annette Garcia Kerry Golden Dan Gonzales Gabriel Gonzales Marla Gonzales Becky Greer Todd Gregory Ivan Gurule Scott Harberts Sean Harris Pam Harvey Jayne Hembree James Oberlander birdwatching. They took second place in the overall competition. The sophomores put on a superb Fall Formal! Max Watts came and played the feet off the student body. To pay for their production, the sophomore class dedicated work in the basketball concession stand. ’$2 broke in the new popcorn machine and made some of the best popcorn the crowds had tasted. Pop and candy bars were consumed by the students and parents, which brought in the moola. The Sophomore class ordered their class rings at the end of the year. It is finished! Those of us who have worked so hard on this annual are glad to have it done. In a personal sense. I want to thank many people who have helped me and listened to me during many crises. My fondest thanks go to our editor, Suzie Boggs, for the many hours she spent helping me with layouts, pictures, and copy. Her help has been invaluable. I also want to thank Deb and Jim Tiemann for the many hours they spent listening and talking to me when I needed to do so. Also thanks to Lolly Schinkel and Pat Quigley for their help in typing and arranging. I want to thank Judy Tigner. Shirley Stinchcomb, Beverly Wiseman. Ralph Logan. Gerry Hazledine. Larry (Boomer Sooner) Thornton, Lea VanderVen, Charlene Urban, and Ellie Noonan for being friends and for understanding. Thanks to Candy Michael for fixing dinner on those nights when I didn’t have time to fix my own. Thanks to Jeff Spencer for showing me how to operate the camera and for listening when I wanted to kick ideas around. Without the help of all these people, this annual would not be. This has been a rear experience for all of us — one that we will never forget. We have done our best on this — we hope that you will like it. P.S. A special thanks to Don and Mike Merback, who as our publishing representatives, helped guide us through the year.
