gPe r- - - I ROUNDUP ’68 Rawlins High School Rawlins, Wyoming Foreward As you look through this book, pause, and let memories draw you back. Within these pages will appear the highlights of a great year, the first for some of you, for some just another one in the journey through your high school careers, and for others it is the completion of that final stretch down the road of high school life which has been filled with wonderful times never to be forgotten. There are bits and snatches of memories: the yelling at the games, the spirit backing the mighty Outlaws, the excitement and activity of Outlaw Day, the jubilant victories and the enthusiasm at the tournaments. And though we can't remember everything, there are little parts of it that will continue to come to mind to remind us of some phase of our high school years: a pep assembly, the halls lined with campaign posters, classes to go to, problems to suffer with, papers to sweat over, the smell through open lab doors, and the lines pushing and hurrying for noon lunch. And of course there was the all night studying for semester finals, the constant battles with grades, the almost failures and the complete ones, the excitement over the new class rings, the gaiety of the formal dancing, the fun shared in the various organizations, graduation, and all the wonderful memories that made RHS our school. These little bits and snatches have been combined to make this year one we will long remember. This book is filled with these memories to serve as a symbol of our life at RHS--our hopes, our dreams, our expectations, our failures, and our disappointments and all are joined together in forming the complete picture of our high school life. With this, the Annual Staff presents the 1967 Roundup. 2 Table Of Contents ANNUAL STAFF Susan Ogburn, Senior Editor Betty Brodsho, Junior Editor Jack Bell, Sports Editor Ron Rothenberger, Senior Business Manager Valri Vivion, Senior Business Manager Connie Osborne, Junior Business Manager Mee Wing, Junior Business Manager SENIORS Robin Hancock Christine Westerbuhr Virginia Williams Sandy Surline Judy Suppes Barbara Fletcher JUNIORS Ava LaDick Pat Mahan Rob Brox Faith Emerson Karen Olson Colleen Carrico Irene Neuman Becky Felton Vicki Donaldson Marilyn Engstrom Alice Skordas ADVISORS Ruth Boedeker Mary Jean Nottveit Lois Kernan Title Page..........................1 Opening Pages.......................2 Administration and Faculty..........4 Seniors............................13 Juniors............................33 Sophomores.........................45 Freshmen...........................55 Activities.........................65 Commencement.......................88 Organizations......................95 Sports............................126 Advertising.......................149 3 Administrators Ronald R. With snow still on the ground, the annual winter concert was presented in February. Concert season ended with a gala Music and Art evening in May. The choir presented its concert to the public and the members of the Rembrandt Club sponsored an art display of works done throughout the year. The largest, single undertaking each year is the presentation of the musical play. This is always a famous musical which has been successful on the Broadway stage. The R Club is the ietterman's club of Rawlins High School. Entry is attained by lettering in one of the four major sports. Neophytes go through two weeks of grueling initiation, capped by a banquet, and completed with a dance. On Outlaw Day, the R Club furnishes the parade convertibles with posters, and drivers, the queen's flowers, and the escorts for the queen and her attendants. The important responsibility of flag presentation at all assemblies rests on the shoulders of the R Club members. Checking coats at the Banquet of Champions provides the first club activity for the neophytes. Donkey Basketball is a money-making venture for the group, presented every other year, and provides fun and frolic for all. Achievements of the R Club have been to purchase a film projector for the athletic department, and to pay the present cost of the cameraman filming the games. The acquisition of All-Conference and All-State letters is another service of R Club. A new project was undertaken this year to provide incentive for all members. Presentation of a football blanket, complete with R , name and year will be made to any senior who has lettered in three different sports, or who is selected to an All-State position, first team. The ”R Club is made up of athletes and provides services, equipment, and rewards to the athletic department. The victory was at the expense of the rival Rock Springs Tigers, which ended the season on a fine note. The season proved valuable to three individuals, Mike Neuman and Tony Heilman as defensive first team choices on the Southern AA All-Conference Team as a linebacker and a guard respectively. The senior members held their own very well as they all had very fine records. Co-captains for the year were Gregg Olson and George Tidwell. The past two years have been proven to be well worth the time as the Outlaws garnered 3rd place in the Southern Wyoming Athletic Conference Tournament, and 13th in the State Tournament. More than half of the spots, left by graduating seniors last year, were filled by underclassmen, especially sophomores. There were eight out of the fourteen track members that were sophomores. Head coach Fran Connor and assistant coach John Maffoni received outstanding performances from a few thin-classmen like Neal Forbes in the high jump, Lee Norris in the two-mile run, Don Pierson in the hurdles, and Jack Argyle in the hurdles and broad jump. Although lacking experience, the Outlaws represented diemselves well placing in most of their meets. They took second place in both the Green River and Rock Springs triangular meets, fifth place in the Casper Invitational s and the Southern A A Conference meet. Things went perfectly as the Outlaws captured first place in the Craig Invitational. Not faring so well in die Riverton Relays and the Cheyenne Invitational, the team got tendi place of nineteen teams, and ninth place of fifteen teams respectively. Three members journeyed to the State Track Meet. They were Jack Argyle in the hurdles and broad jump, Ralph Vasey in the Shotput, and Neal Forbes in the high jump. 'This is fun??' Boy !
