There were a few changes in the policy along with a new Superintendent. Although there were many moans and groans, the year turned out to be a successful one. We also found out that if we cooperate with them, they will help us get a few more liberties. MRS. WILLIAMS - Secretary FACULTY Our good old R.H.S. faculty turned in another year that will put them back another year. This year they had the task of enforcing the new dress regulations to help the School Board out. They got their kicks this year by calling boys down for no belts and the girls for short skirts. The Rawlins Outlaws charged into Outlaw Day with more vim and vigor than in many of the former years. Everyone was very busy working on their floats, and the school spirit was at a peak. The gay mood was dampened a bit with a defeat by the opposing team but was restored at the dance. 97 Pat and Rosie at the big moment. What's New Pussycat was the theme of the first place senior float shown ABOVE. RIGHT: The Junior train chugged into the picture and was announced as the third place winner. LOWER RIGHT: The Outlaws were encouraged to Add up a Victory by the Sophomore float. BELOW: The clever freshmen managed to take second place with their Steamboat which used the motto: Steaming On to a Victory. - WOOING UP fl VICTORY All of the classes in good ole R.H.S. put forth a lot of work and came up with four of the nicest floats to be seen. The seniors had the first holder and the freshmen came in second which is very seldom done. 98 R.H.S. ON OUTLAW DAY The members of R.H. S. seem to take all the excitement of Outlaw Day in stride and hide their mixed emotions. ABOVE Steve Swanson and Helen Pryce relax and pay close attention to the instructor. Would you believe tired? Pat Lunney demonstrates the great confidence of the home team. Cheerleader Linda Jaramillo pins a booster badge on Jim Lawrence. Senior girls dig in and receive their mums to show they are firmly behind the team. The smiles on the faces of Clyde Pryce and Dave Manzanares are a shining example of the great school spirit on Outlaw Day. 99 Pillow Talk was presented by the Junior Class on Friday, November 19, 1965, in the Junior High Auditorium at 8p.m. This was a two-act comedy with the leads held by Linda Anderson and Steve Olson. FALL FORMAL I Wanna Hold Your Hand! The Fall Formal, sponsored by the Freshman and Sophomore classes, was held on October 5 at the high school. The appropriate theme of Harvest Moon was chosen, and the gym was decorated accordingly. As the evening ended, everyone agreed that they had a good time and enjoyed dancing to the music of The Cavemen from Casper. Everyone had a Swingin (?) Time! 102 BAND-CHORUS BANQUET Curt Healey, Christy Rasmussen, Sandy Shaffer, Bill Higley, Carol Pierson, Andy Shaffer, Mrs. Aldrich, Mr. Aldrich, Mrs. Carlson, Mr. Carlson, Mrs. Schultz, Mr. Schultz, and Mr. Herr. Music by the Jestors from Laramie, Wyo. , furnished the entertainment as everyone joined in the fun. 103 ABOVE: Susan Baker, Kay Diehl, JoAnn Cashman, Christy Rasmussen. The Sound of Music was chosen by John Carlson, R.H.S. director, to be presented by the Rawlins High School concert choir as their annual operetta. The story tells of a young postulant, Maria Rainer (Lorie Engstrom) who is sent to be a governess for the Von Trapp children. Captain Von Trapp (Roger Epp) and Maria fall in love and are married as the Germans push into Austria. When they return from their honeymoon, they find that the Captain is to be inducted into the German forces, and they flee with their 7 children: Liesle (Linda Anderson), Friedrich (Curt Healey), Louisa (Barbara Fletcher), Kurt (Dwight Dunlap), Brigetta (Claudia Hoffman), Marta (Polly Norris), and Gretl (Becky Norris). The play 'Twelve Angry Jurors was given by the senior class of 1966 on April 1. The play was given under the direction of Gary Narum an instructor at the high school. Many who saw the play given have termed it one of the best plays . given by high school students . The story concerns a nineteen year old boy who is put on trial for the murder of his father. All jurors believe he is guilty but one, and she goes on to convince the rest of the jurors that he is innocent. I’m going to kill you, says Irene Kelly to Carol Pierson as the tempers flare during the play. Those restraining Miss Kelly are Judy Patterson, Barbara Lindeman, and Bill Johnston. Judy Neuman, looks on. 106 Do you believe the boy's stupid story? asks Betzy Schwartz as she tries to convince the rest of the jury that the boy on trial is guilty. Just as the play began Helen Pryce offers Barbara Lindeman, member of the jury, a stick of gum to ease her nerves that are tensed due to the long trial and hot weather. Bill Johnston and Connie look on. Carol tries to explain to several other members of the jury just exactly why she does not believe that the boy on trial is guilty of murder. She shows them that an old man could not have gotten to the door of his apartment as fast as he swore he could. Those watching are: Judy Neuman, Neal Bloomemrader, Grace Eckhoff, and Barbara Lindeman. 107 R-CLUB BANQUET John and Marsha.........???? The annual R-Club Banquet was held on April 22. The affair is held each year in honor of the Neophytes being initiated into R-Club. The Fables played for the dance, and the entertainment provided by both the coaches and Neophytes was more than superb! Swing it Ralph! Hit the Floor! Who's off key? The outstanding quarterbacking of Pat Lunney led the Outlaws to many of their impressive games, such as the 7-7 tie with Torrington, victory over Craig, wins over St. Mary's and over Evanston. The best game of the season was with the Casper Mustangs, when we trounced them 32-0. Jess Manzanares, a 2 year letterman, being switched from guard to fullback, earned a berth as guard on the All State Team. But at District in Torrington, we came through to qualify for State by beating top-ranked Laramie. There, too, Pat Lunney, co-captain, was named to the All-Conference team. At State we played our hearts out, but this year just wasn't ours. With graduation. The Outlaws will loose five outstanding men. Praise should be given unsparingly to the senior cagers: Terry Lehti, Dan Leonard, Steve Swanson, Pat Lunney, and Craig Neuman. These boys along with the rest of the team ended their careers by giving their all to put the Outlaws in State berths and closing the season with great pride in their alma mater. OUR MIGHTY GRAPPLERS After a few years absence, wrestling returned to Rawlins High, adding more excitement to our athletic program. Even though our unexperienced men got off to a slow start, much improvement was shown towards the close of the season. For its first year, the team won two matches, both from University Prep. But watch out, you can bet that next year our team will be one of the toughest in the State! The fearless captains, Mike Smith, Steve Olson. 123 Hang in there, whoever you are! WRESTLING Wait, Wait! Stop the match! Your shoe's untied, fella! TRACK AT ITS BEST With only four returning lettermen, our cindermen had one of its best track seasons in years. Once again practice sessions for our track team were hampered by another year of bad weather, experiencing both rain and snow. Even though we failed to have a track meet here in Rawlins, we did make excellent showings elsewhere. Our track stars won all of their meets except for two. At District we faced good stiff competition, and therefore, were unable to place high. But three of our men, Del Dixon, Bob Collier, and Joel Johnson, did prove their outstanding abilities at District, which qualified them for State. At State Collier and Dixon placed, fourth and fifth respectively. Yes, it was truly a year that RHS was proud of its men!!!!!!! 124 Ron James sprints as Heilman, Argyle, Eliopulos, Sjolin, Show them how its done, Clyde! !
