Is Big Success The Rawlins High School Band leaned heavily on its percussion section when it presented shows for the home football games last fall. Immediately after football season 18 selected bandsmen participated in the fall Inter-School Clinic at Rock Springs. The remainder of the time before the Winter Concert was spent providing spirited music and color at all the home basketball games. 1962 was also filled with music—January, Winter Concert; February, basketball; March, Inter-School Clinic hosted at Rawlins; April, full house at Spring Concert, and District Festival at Green River; May, Mary Louise Gonzales, Robert Davis, Kenneth Gardner, and John Hutt members of the All-State Band at State Festival, and as the finale, Pomp and Circumstance at graduation ceremony. Director Dave Hanson compliments of McGEE—MURPHY FORD Debate The Thespians represent the drama interest in Rawlins High School. The members participate in varied activities connected with dramatics. These range from a weekly half-hour radio program presented by two people, putting makeup on the members of the annual Junior and Senior class play and the operetta, reading prose and poetry for ratings at invitational and district speech meets, to taking part in the one-act play the Thespians present yearly at District Speech Meet. The club is a healthy part of the life of any student who is interested in drama. Under Mrs. Chaffin's able leadership, the Thespians have become a major club in Rawlins High's extracurricular program. Language Club The Debate team has debates with other schools in this area. They learn to do research and from this they learn to present a forceful argument, either pro or con. The debate squad traveled extensively this year. They went to two invitational speech meets held at Reliance and Green River, both which proved profit able to the three affirmative and negative teams. Once again the debaters went forth to discuss federal aid to education in Rock Springs at the District Speech meet. This was the final trip for the squad as no teams qualified for the state meet. The debaters had a jolly year with Mr. Searles and even though their luck wasn't always the best, they learned quite a bit. Thespians This club is organized to promote the knowledge of language and to stimulate interest in the history, customs, and culture of other peoples. Membership is open to anyone who is taking a second year of a foreign language or who has completed two years of a foreign language. Another play which will long be remembered by the Outlaw fans was when halfback Ken Fulkerson ran wild against the Craig Bulldogs to help the Outlaws in their victory over Craig. Chosen on the first all-state team were Tackle Doug Potter and Fullback Bob Aksmit. End Guy Ray was chosen for the second all-state team.
