Mr. Lee has been : investigating and planning on the possibility that Rawlins may have a new high school building ina few years. We wish him all the success in the world in this venture. Mr. Lunney is the man in charge of all the schools in Rawlins and governs their schedules, plans, equip- ment and physical plants. He is the one who has to worry whether the busses will run on time, if the grass at the football field will grow or if Rawlins will have enough teachers for the next year. Mr. Rothenberger is the high school principal and is responsible for all activities in our high school. If any of you have been tardy or have stepped out of line in one of your classes you have met Mr. Rothenberger. But his job is not one of scolding and lecturing. He has to see to it that everything in the high school runs smoothly and that the students get the. education that they have come to school to acquire. Our heartfelt thanks for the wonderful job they have done for us this year. Seutor Play THE CURIOUS SAVAGE, presented by eleven seniors and directed by Mr. Donald Blakeslee, depicted in play form the nature of some pious, grasping, fellow humans, Dixie Goodrich, as Mrs. Savage, portrayed in charming fashion the multi-millionaire widow who was committed to a '''rest'' home by her children who hoped to acquire her fortune. Her three greedy children were most convincingly enacted by Ransom Baker, the grasping Senator Titus; Tony Campman, Samuel the Judge; and Arlene, the daughter. Pam McKelvey played 'Fairy May and convinced. everyone of their balminess and drew many laughs while doing so. Elaine Johnson, as Mrs. Paddy who never talked and who didn't like electricity, was also convincingly portrayed, Lorna Latier, as Florence Williams, portrayed a mother who had lost her son but found him after all, Bob Salisbury, as Hannibal, tried in vain to play the violin, Bill Fate played Jeffery who suffered because of a war accident and kept the plot in a precarious position, but added many laughs. John Collier as Dr. Emmett and Joen Williams as his assistant helped these inmates to recover. 49 Wyemtug “Track OH WHAT A BEAUTIFUL ENDING AGAIN! During this season Rawlins High School suddenly comes alive with activity. Spring fever seems to take hold of us and we find it harder and harder to study as the season progresses. The harsh wind, unexpected snows, an occasional rain, and a few days of sunshine describe March, April, and May. Memories of happy high school days flash through our minds as we seniors anxiously await graduation night. The freshmen have become a part of high school now. Their first year was a memorable one, The sophomores look ahead with anxiety because they will be next years upperclassmen, The juniors are busily engaged in planning their Junior-Senior Prom--- Fairy Garden, Basketball tournament in Green River is all over, and track takes its place under the sport spotlight. The election of Terry Brown as Student Body President and Bob Grieve as Student Body Vice President helped to draw the 1955-56 school year to a conclusion, REGINA CLEARY Tri-T 2,3,4; Glee Club 1,2; Mixed Chorus I; Band 2,3,4; Pep Club 2,3; Thespians 4; Annual Staff 4; Girls' State 3; G. MIKE MULLEN Spanish Club 2, nti ta LEFT TO RIGHT: Bobby Salisbury, Lorna Latier, Pam McKelvey, Joen Williams, Tony Campman, Arlene Foster, Elaine Johnson, Dixie Goodrich , John Collier, Ransom Baker, and Bill Fate, Under the direction of Donald Blakeslee the seniors presented the ''Curious Savage'' on April 5 and 6. The plot of the play was quite humorous! At the home of the ''Cloisters lived a family named Savage. Although the members of this family were not considered lunatics,'' they were not considered normal either. | Dixie Goodrich played Mrs. Savage. Her ambitious family of three included: | Ransom Baker, Titus; Tony Campman, Samuel; and Arlene Foster, Lillybelle. | A part of the insane outside world included: Fairy May, Pam McKelvey; Hannibal, Bob Salisbury; Florence, Lorna Latier; and Jeffrey, Bill Fate. John Collier portrayed Dr. Emmet, and Joen Williams his assistant. Elaine Johnson played Mrs. Paddy, the lady who insists that it should be lights off'' during Lent. As the plot began to unfold curious things began to happen. The situation became hilarious when you contrasted Mrs. Savage and her family with the so-called insane outside world.'' The rest of the senior class took over the working end of the play. Various committees, were appointed to carry out the plans. The play was a success, and it was enjoyed by everyone! 65 A Eighty-six students received diplomas at the commencement.exercises held in the high school auditorium at 8:00 p.m. on May 23. The ceremony began with the ''Pomp and Circumstance proces- sional down the aisle onto the stage. Father John Meyer gave the Invocation. Principal Roland Rothenberger presented the scholarships to the students of high scholastic standing, after which Maurice Medina gave the Salutatory address. The guest speaker, P. J. Lynch, vice-president of the Union Pacific Railroad, then addressed the graduates and the audience, Linda Larson then proceeded with the Valedictory address. Felter, president of the school board, presented the diplomas. Commencement ended with the Recessional. “hte, We Kemember As we look back across the years--the years we have loved so much, we are remembering all the wonderful times together, It is fun to let our thoughts go back.....a million memories ago, Our memories start one bright September morning four years ago, The school bell of Rawlins High School rang and another school year was underway. Starting that day was a group of students, fresh, young, and bright, known as the Class of '56, We learned a lot that first year, not all of it in the classroom! Under our capable officers Larry Hatch, President; Richard Hicks, Secretary; Bill Fate, Vice President; and Don Hall, Treasurer; we had our first party, the Sophomore Return, The theme was Sherwood Forest. During the Outlaw Day festivities we won second place on our float, Another September, and the Class of '56 became those know it all veterans, the sophomores, We were led by Tony Campman, President; Larry Hatch, Vice President; LaVerna Clemmens, Secretary; Eddie Nealon, Treasurer; and Don Hall, Representative to student council. The Freshman Reception was our social event for the year, For this special occasion we chose the theme Winter Wonderland, Another honor was directed our way when we won third place on our Outlaw Day float, The next year was our big one! We were Juniors, and we didn't care who knew it. We started the year off right by electing Myrna Sjogren as President, Joen Williams as Vice President, Regina Cleary as Secretary -Treasurer, and Maurice Medina as Representative. Under the direction of Donna Lowe we presented our Junior Play, Desperate Ambrose, acclaimed as a hit by all members of the two capacity crowds, To add to our honors Regina Cleary, Pat Sintek, Linda Larson, and Janice Gill were chosen to attend Wonderful Wyoming Girls' State, Jim Hunter, Don Mortensen, Maurice Medina, Eugene Lasco, and Carl Rassmusson were chosen to attend Boys' State. A special note of interest--our junior class wrote the present school song, “Stand Up And Cheer For Old Rawlins High, An impressive candlelight service was the scene of the installation of Tony Campman, Janice Gill, Larry Hatch, Joen Williams, Maurice Medina, and Albert w Sanchez, into the National Honor Society. With the coming of Spring we elected Don Hall as our student body president, This was it; the social highlight of all time,....our Junior-Senior Prom! All agreed that the theme Castle In The Moonlight was perfect, Darold Knapp and Joen Williams were elected as Prom King and Queen, And on this happy note our third year ended, At last we took our place as those aristocrats of RHS--the mighty seniors, To lead us through our year of triumph we elected Larry Hatch as President, Albert Sanchez as Vice President, Maurice Medina as Secretary -Treasurer, and Bill Fate as Representative. The class received its share of honors, Linda Larson was elected Outlaw Day Homecoming Queen, and Pam McKelvey was chosen as attendant, Doris Simms, Linda Larson, Pam McKelvey, Arlene Foster, Regina Cleary, Burt Kinniburgh, Carl Rassmusson, Sue Lamm, Lorna Latier, and Bill Fate were taken into National Honor Society, Pat Sintek was chosen editor of the Outlaw Corral and Linda Larson editor of the Roundup, At our annual awards assembly Joen Williams received the Citizenship Award and the Homemaker's Award, Tony Campman received the George Eliopulos Award, Bill Fate was chosen as the most outstanding senior boy, Lorna Latier received the John Phillip Sousa band award, Helen Willis was chosen as the most outstanding vocal student, Arlene Foster was announced winner of the Voice of Democracy contest. Regina Cleary was awarded the best commercial student, Maurice Medina received the Bausch and Lomb science award as the most outstanding senior science student. Linda Larson was the graduating class valedictorian and Maurice Medina, Salutatorian, Also at the top of the graduating class were Sue Lamm, Regina Cleary, Joen Williams, Norma Jones, Shirley Knapp, Larry Hatch, and TonyCampman, Our senior play, “The Curious Savage,” under the direction of Donald Blakeslee, was undoubtedly the “Greatest Show on Earth, Our Senior Ball was also a huge success! As the year drew to its finale, we became busier and busier, Senior week began on May 16, and we all enjoyed a vacation before graduation, Then commencement was over -- it was time to leave, With a lump in our throat and a diploma in our hand, we said Good-bye to dear, old RHS, Class Colors: Red and Silver Class Flower: American Beauty Rose Motto: A winner never quits, and a quitter never wins, Class Sponsor: Paul Berteloot Linda Larson FLAG TWIRLERS: Norma Epperson, Mona Decker, Tudy Williams.
