Senior Class History On September 7, 1940 the big race began and we, the very enthusiastic freshmen, started off at a swift pace for the four year relay race. The first big event was the grand Freshman Reception given in our honor, and then, in an effort to prove ourselves a top team, we followed this up by building the best Outlaw Day float. Our captain Vern Vivion, led us through an exciting and fun packed quarter and to three-month rest period in May. With a little more serious note in the game, our team, now bearing the name of Sophomores, started on the second lap of the race. This time we gave the welcome to the new Freshmen team and then buckled down to playing the game. Our new leader, Keith Snider, gave us pointers on playing the game and being a top notch team. Again in May a well-earned rest was taken to freshen up for the third quarter. VERNON VIVION “Vern” Student Body President With two quarters behind us we Juniors, as we were now called, were experienced and more confident of our stride. Led by Joe Siray we raced through a wonderful year filled with outstanding events and memories. We received class rings, gave the Junior Play, began to take a greater interest in other school activites, and finally before the whistle for the end of the third blew, we gave a Prom and Banquet to the departing team, the Seniors. Entering into the final quarter with the goal in sight, interest was at a high point and the whole team strived to do their best, again our team getting first for the Outlaw Day float and under our re-elected leader, Joe Siray, many new activities were introdueecd. At the half many of our teammates had to leave the group to do a bigger job but finally after being greatly honored at the Junior-Senior Prom and Banquet, we broke the tape and received our diplomas with the memories of a wonderful race and many good times.
