Basketball Season--1955-1956 In the fir st game of the season wejumped to a good start in the winning col- umn by squeezing past Ripley 81-79. Full of pep and vim we went after our second win against Gilmore only to come home losers, the score 51-46. We thenwent on our first road trip in the school's history to Kermit and Chat- taroy. We easily took the first game in a fine display of basketball, the final score being 80-73. However, the next night we lost to Chattaroy 81-59. Back once more to R.H.S. Gymnasium we played Point Pleasant, but lost by the close score of 66-59. Next on the schedule was the Alumni. Not being what they used to be, the Red Devils defeated them 79-46. Back on our winning streak again we defeated Wahama 73-57. In our next game we again met our old rivals and friends, Ripley, defeating them 88-85. We then lost one of the hardest games of the seasons to Spencer 57-56. Back to our own stomping grounds once more We lost to Kermit 79-78, another great disappointment. Walton then journeyed to R.H.S., but bowed to the Red Devils 78-67. Next we went to Elizabeth for an L.K. Game, trompling them 86-46. ln revenge of our first loss we then romped over Gilmore by the score of 100-62, the first time Ravenswood had hit the 100 mark We broke another record at Wahama that same week by beating them by the close score of 77-74. 6 Again revenge was our object. We got our revenge by winning over Spencer 8 -59. Our winning streak once again going strong we beat Grantsville in an after- noon game, at Grantsville, 87-44. Elizabeth again bowed to the mighty Red Devils by a score of 79-59. Point Pleasant, the only team that beat us twice during the season beat us by the score of 94-91. We needed a win over Walton to assure us first place in the Southern Divi- sion of the L.K. Conference, but Walton beat the Spano Men bya score of 76-75. Grantsville was next, and a win over them assured at least a tie in the L.K. Southern Division. Spencer and Ravenswood had the same record, but the Red Devils were chosen by the coaches of the Southern Division to play Sandfork in the L. K. playoff, Sandfork had lost only one game all season and no games in the Northern Divi- sion. Sandfork was picked to win and did by the score of 95-88, but the Red Devils never let their opponents once take a breather. High scorer for the year was Dean Moore, R.1-l.S. center, who had an average of at least 2.5 points or more during the season. Thus ended a very successful season for the Ravenswood Red Devil Basket- ball team. On Thursday, March lst, we met Gilmore in the first game of the Sectional Tournament, romping over them 80-48. On Friday we took on Walton and very successfully tromped them by the score of 90-58. The Red Devils go to the Regional Tournament next week, and we wish them the best of luck. 38
