Class History One bright auturnn morning in September 1952 , a great calamity struck R.H.S. Supposedly the faculty and upper classmen thought the school would never be the same again, but routine and time tamed us into a measure of conformity. Being eighty in number and having the largest class in history,we gained pride in proportion to our size. Our sponsors for the freshman year were Denzil Jarrett and Oren Kyger. Margie Rowley was elected president, Frank Smeeks, vice-president, Beverly Blake, secretary, and Don Bonar, treasurer. We held our class banner high. One teacher describes our class by one word scintillating. By the time September had rolled around again, we were ready and accepted our new status as sophomores with continued pride and dis- tinction. Beginning in 1953 we took over, with unwavering confidence, our natural role of center-stage in school. We started in extra-curricu- lar activities aswell as classrooms. Ann McCoy was elected president, Danny Haught, vice-president, Helen Miller, secretary, and Don Bonar, treasurer. For that year we rated our permanent capable sponsors, Mrs. John Landfried and Mr. James Porter. ln 1954 we received our class rings a year ahead of the traditional schedule. We staged with enthusiastic success, An Old Kentucky Gar- den, an operetta inthree acts. The colorful background, costumes, and musical roles brought equally enthusiastic audience response. Our Jr.- Sr. Banquet and Prom setting was a novel replica of French decor and cuisine. Again this year we had our two beloved sponsors, Mrs. Land- fried and Mr. Porter. Serving us as officers for that well-remembered year were Dean Moore, president, Danny Haught, vice-president, Helen Miller, secretary, and Don Bonar, treasurer. A fine spirit of co-oper- ation was enjoyed by our whole class. As seniors in 1955 we numbered 70. Decreased in quantity but not in quality, we accepted our new honors with proper pride and a new hu- mility. Now these Halls of Ivy seemed more dear, and we loved them. It was this year that we published the Nautilus. Looking forward to graduation, some were anxious, others were dreading it, and some few were still gliding along. This being the all-important year, most of us kept bustling. We had the senior play, Homecoming Game, Class Night, and graduation exercises to prepare. Crowned Miss Red Devil from our class was Mirt Wilson with Mr. Red Devil, Wilmer Taylor. We were well represented by our senior class officers: President, Margie Rowley, vice-president, Dennis Click, secretary, Billie Boggs, and, for afourth-time record,Don Bonar, treasurer. At this time we would like to thank our honorable sponsors, Mrs. Joan Landfried and Mr. James Porter, for the good advice and expert guidance they have given us. To the entire faculty we give appreciation for help and discipline. We are now ready to face the future. Whatever comes we feel secure and assured thatwe had already taken one big step in the right direction. Now with humble hearts we leave you, dear High School. Through the years that will roll around,we 'll remember you. May we live the prophe- cy of our class motto: America may expect much of us. 16
