Our favorites have been v'olleyball and baseball. We have had several games of volleyball ivith the eighth and ninth graders. We lost a game to the ninth grade, but Won all three games played With the eighth. We choose sides and have fun playing, too. Miss Sorrell usually plays vvith us. Helen and Diane have been the best girl players, While most of the boys are good. Baseball has been quite a favorite for the boys, especially our star players, Pete and Charles. We girls have shovvn the boys We are not as bad as they thought. We played stealing prisoners in the snow one day. Three deep is another of our games We often play. TRIP TO MUSEUM After We had finished our study of rocks and prehistoric animals in Science, our teacher took us to visit the Museum. We Went by the Capitol and learned many interesting things, also. Best of all Was When we were allovved to stop in a drug store for refreshments. ASTRONOMY One night our class met at the Physics building at State College to observe the moon, Jupiter and Saturn. Dr. Heck was our helper and guide. He was surprised at the number of constellations yve could name. FOLK DANCIXG One of our most enjoyable activities is folk dancing. At first We Were quite shy, but after much practice We found ourselves much enthused when Miss Sorrell rewarded us With a Shumaker Dance, Virginia Reel, or Whatever she chose for us. We even learned to dance in couples. STABIPS Mrs. Kilrchofer, Dianels mother, sent us a letter that had been Sent to a chapter of the D. A. B. relating to the saving of canceledstamps. When We were promised a play period for the troop who brought in the most Stamps-you Should have seen our room by Friday! We have already sent ,off over three hundred thousand to Britain to be sold to stamp dealers. The money is used to support three cots in the Queen's Hospital. Hfabel Duke Went down to report this to The News and Page th irty-two Observer for us and also to report that We had contributed over twenty dollars for our Red Cross. After America entered the War, We felt we should help our country. This We did by being 100 per cent for Defense Stamps and Bonds. SELLING ADS After much discussion about having an annual this year, We came to the conclusion that We could get enough complimentary advertisement to pay for our book. We had a class meeting and elected oflicers and began Work. Each person decided to take C310j ten dollars as his goal. At the present time Mabel Duke and Diane have turned in the most money. PICTURE MAKING Since We decided to have studio pictures for our annual, our teacher let us go for the sitting mornings before We came to school. We were to go in groups of Six and stay together. What fun We had! While Waiting for the bus to school We got drinks and candy. The candy We later distributed to our classmates when we returned. Cur teacher told us We were very good, as not one of us played Hhookeyf' CHRISTMAS PAGEANT This Christmas was the time for us to take the main parts in our pageant. This is one privilege of being a senior at Ravenscroft. Mabel Duke was Mary, Charles portrayed Joseph, Helen was the angel Ga- briel, Pete, with some sixth grade boys, was king, many others were people visiting the Christ Child with gifts, and the choir, which was unseen, was made up of our best singers. We were proud of this lovely Manger Scene. PICNI-CKING We are planning to go to Mrs. Miller's home for a Wiener roast in her back yard. She is the mother of our mascot twins. Jimmy Trull's mother is going to take us on a picnic to help Jimmy celebrate his birth- day. We are planning a swim in the pool and a picnic supper when We get all our annual material to the printers. May is to be our month of fun after Working so hard for the other eight. ENGLISH VISITORS During the time the British seamen were visiting at Camp Crabtree, We were fortunate enough to have Gunner L. C. C. Eades, of London, and his assistant, Henry Irving Mellor, of Blackpool, to visit our grade and talk With us on the War. We were quite impressed with their talks. They seemed so glad to find us happy. We sang some songs and danced for them. They made the War Seem more real to us, but We hope we may never experience some of the like incidents which they told us. Page tltirty-three C,QdZ8 WB!! W 061449 FAREWELL Dear Ravenscroft, we bid farewell, Good-by forever more 5 We'll miss you more than we can tell, As we descend your door. You'll always remain in our memories true, As we go on in our years. This our dear little class of forty-two Will leave behind many tears. .ANNE IDEXVEY HEARTT. IFAREXVELI. We all are very sad to leave our dear old seventh grade, The memories of each happy day will never, never fade, And here at last the time has come for us to now depart, So let us each be brave and leave with every happy heart LXNNE IXRENDELL. CLASS POEM For seven long years we've worked To reach that wondrous goal, Now that we've attained that height 'We recall the days of old. Maybe you think it's not so very high, But to us it seems just like the sky, Behind we'Ve laid a good foundation For future people of one great nation. MABEL DUKE STEPHENSON. John A. W1'ight, and Rev. Charles Wulf, assistant, alternating. Two hymns are sung and various portions are taken from the Prayer Book. Miss Patsy McKay is our organist. This service usually lasts about 15 minutes. So starts our day. KINDERGARTEN Miss Catherine Waite weaves in through the morning Bible stories and grace is said before the children drink their 10 o'clock milk. GRADE 1 Mrs. Williamsoii gives stories which she selects from Christian Nur- ture series and Bible stories from other sources. Stories are also told relating to the Christian year as the season appears in the course of the Church Calendar. Mrs. VVilliamson emphasizes Christian living as related to the lives of the first graders. GRADE 2 Mrs. Tongue teaches the life of our Lord in relation to the Christian year, also The Lord's Prayer, a Grace to be said before meals, and the Pledge of Allegiance to the Cross. Each child makes a chart of the Christian Seasons and a booklet to include the chart and typed catalogue of the Seasons and Holy days with explanation. GRADE 3 The Rev. Charles Wulf teaches from the Old Testament, also, Stories from Once Upon a Bedtime by Sibyl Harton every Monday and Thurs- day. GRADE 4 . Mr. Wulf instructs the 4th grade also, and this year has used two books, The Stories Jesus Told -these are parables of our Lord retold and explained for children-by Gertrude Hollis, and UA Boy's and Girl's Life of Christ, by Paterson Smyth, every Monday and Thursday. Page thirty-sfizv GRADES 5 AND 6 These two grades are combined every Monday and Thursday when Christian Symbolism is taught by Mrs. Crowson. Just as the alphabet letters are symbols of our language, so Christian Symbols are the sign language of our Faith. The Children learn not merely to look at symbols, but through them to the truths which they express. Each pupil makes his own book of Symbols and they are Colored With the proper church colors. A tour is conducted around the different churches in Raleigh at which time the various Symbols and Crosses are pointed out and their meaning explained. GRADE 7 This class is conducted by The Rev. John A. 'Wright This past year Mr. W1'ight has taught '4The Life of Cur Lord and Christian living. Page thirty-seven ,an Cfdfii QOH?
