Cla.. 0-fciiviiiea FoLK DANCES After having studied different countries in our geography, we decided that it would be interesting to learn their folk dances. We especially enjoyed the dances of the Dutch, English, Ger- man, Swedish, Norwegian, French, and Italian. We enjoyed some modern and American dances, too. Some of our favorites were: Shoemaker Dance, Klappdans, Minuet, Norwegian Moun- tain March, Virginia Reel, Sicilian Circle, Highland Fling, Mountain Clog, waltzes, fox-trots, and two-stepsj 4 DEBATING ,3 Cne of our most outstanding activities has been a debate on the independence of the Philippine Islands. Cn the affirmative team were Joyce Parker, Sally Hall Williams, and Lucy Sum- ner. 'Bert Claridge, Bill Self, and Frances Bickett debated on the negative team. Miss Sorrell invited a Fillipino from ,State Collewfallsuth us about the situation. When the day came for'9t debate, the judges--Miss Lee, our principal, Mrs. Tongue, second grade teacher, Miss Waite, kindergarten teacher -decided that the egative team was the winner. Our chair- man wasfgobliie rand Lillian Dewar served as secretary. A photographier ro S. e News and Observer made pictures of our debaters which appeared in the following Sunday's edition of the paper. li f it DRANIATICS We enjoyed studying a series of plays, some of which we dramatized and others we pantomimed. Longfellow's Court- ship of Miles Standish gave us a picture of early New England. Page sixteen
