Mlss Haubold left because of lllness The class OTTILCFS were Presldent Charles Stuber secretary treasur er Helen Psota We had several class partles du11n the vear Our clas act1v1t1es wound up for the year w1th a p1cn1c by the Loup Rlver The summer passed qulckly and 1n September of 1940 we aoam found our elves back Kelly Mlss Swanson and Mrs Crumbllss after Mlss Swanson went to the hospltal Our teachers whose faces were fam1l1ar were MISS Rentfrow Mlss Duncan Mlss Cunmngham Mrs HHHKIHSJ Mr Russell and Mr Crumbll s Thls was the year that the most traglc 1nc1dent of our school days occurred On September 6 194-5 our hlgh school blllldlllg burned down After we were settled 1n the jumor hlgh bulldlng we went about our bus1 ness to elect class OHTICGIS and sponsor Our offrcers were presldent Melun Franck sec retary treasurer Pat Whltcomb Our class sponsor was Mr Kelly Oh' how we complaln ed but 1 bet we ll always remember hlm as a sponsor who wanted us k1ds to have fun and eat a lot All those partles wlth gobs and gobs of food especlally Boston baked beans and home made ch1l1 At the carnlval sponsored by the jumors our candldates Lenore Her vert and Allen Ahrens were chosen ueen and Klnb After our school PILIHC at Poole Bluffs fdo you st1ll l1ke to play klttenball and r1de 1n the back of cattle truck 'Pj we sald Goodbye to our frlends and classmates unt1l next year Soon September rolled around agaln and we found ourselves to be jumors m the same old blllldlflg but lookmg forward to the new schoolhouse The faculty chanoed a llttle Mr Lhamberlaln was st1ll superlntendent but Mr Hankms became prlnclpal New junlor teachers were M1ss Zeck Mr Lyslnger and well known but new to us as a teacher Mlss Fmch Thls was the year we had only llttle thln s to do l1ke plannm the junlor semor banquet Oh what a tlme' Our sponsor MISS Zeck wlth a httle help from our class Offl cers presldent Melym Franek V106 presldent Fred Roth secretary ,l1Il1lX0Ql13l treasurer Don Kappler pulled us throu h admlrably Our first job was to ralse money We d1d th1s by sellmo statlonery presentm LeRoy the Ma 1c1an and sponsorln a box soclal QA new venture but what a success w1th Mr Kelly as auct1oneer'l Our banquet theme was Shlps and Bells and after several weeks of preparatlon we at last found ourselves seated around the table wlth Don Kappler as toastmaster Of course you remember the afternoon we spent shovelmg snow off the football Held lt was fun to work hard that way wasnt 1t9 Thls year Lyle Capellan and Robert Rasmussen Jomed us to represent Hazard whlle De Alton Fox at the same tlme declded to walt and graduate w1th u We were all very sad when we heard school was golng to close wlthout ey en havma our annual school plcmc Some of us were so sad we declded to set our own date for the p1cn1c and go any Page Thirteen . . .
