OUR MORNING ASSEMBLY We Offer Thee All Our joy's, Works and Sufferings of This Day. Junior School News A visit from Mother General and our own Mother Frances have been held in long expectation since we reopened school on September 12. Although exteriorly we found severalpersons and things somewhat changed, we felt from the first moment of our first assem- bly, fin our new assembly roomi the same Assumption love and spirit which we had reluctantly left behind just 3 months earlier. We felt a touch of sorrow in learning that Mother Guadalupe had left us for Mexico and Mother Angeles for Central America, but we are happy in knowing that other children will share their love and our sacrifice. Our annual round of Field Trips began with the I and II grades' excursion to the Zoo on September 30. The other classes were quick to follow, each choosing one special trip as their class project, in correla- with their studies. The III grade visited a bakery, where they saw and conquered , remaining as guests for lunch. The IV grade visited the Bulletin Building, and as their treasure they each harvested a metal plate bearing their own name. The V and VI joined forces for an all-day outing to Pier 80, The Port of Phila- delphia. This year we have been guests and participants in many assemblies, some of which were a Mission Assembly in October and an Educational Work Assem- bly in November. The Scouts and Brownies have been very active this year. The Scouts are anticipating their May trip to Washington, while the Brownies will enjoy entertaining the troops of Pennypacker School. There is no need to tell of the success of cookouts and cookie selling drives . In the dramatic field we have written and produced our own plays, often at surprise assemblies. We pre- sented Christmas in the Tyrol singing some of the carols in German, and we shall, perhaps rather am- bitiously, give Tekawitha in French for Mother General. We have several times been guests at the high school entertainments, and we were much im- pressed when we saw both Jewish and Christian plays at Pennypacker School. Miss Michels, the Principal of Pennypacker, has given several lessons in Art Appreciation and our parents enjoyed very much her talk to them at the second Open House . We have played New Sharon and Drexel Hill in Basketball and Hockey, both at home and away games. We fought hard to beat the Novitiate at Dodge Ball, but wish to congratulate the Mothers hockey team on their victory over the Daughters . The parents have taken a devoted and interested part in school activities and have been guests at many social gatherings. Each grade had a Pareut's tea. The V and VI dressed as characters from famous paintings for the occasion. There was a Fathers and Daughters dinner, and a Grandmother's tea. Looking back on this school year, it is encouraging to note that all our academic activities have been so closely knit with the religious and spiritual ones. We have our weekly Mass and Communion, Benediction every First Friday, and we are proud to think that we have helped, both by prayers and in a material way to combat Communism in Italy and throughout the world. ei 'E ,,..,
