GLEE CLUB This year of 1955 and 1956 has been a full and exciting one for the Glee Club. They were very fortunate to be one of the few choral groups to sing at Wanamaker's pre-Christmas celebration. The setting of a Gothic Cathedral and the music gave everyone the true spirit of Christmas. Also, there was a very good attendance at The Annual Christmas Concert at Ravenhill. Everyone enjoyed the program which contained the Alleluia by Mozart, and selections of Christmas carols. A few days before the Christmas vacation, the Glee Club sang at Women's Medical College and at the Little Sisters of the Poor. During the first months of 1956 the girls worked very hard preparing for their Spring Concert. They felt that they were well rewarded when they saw how the audience appre- ciated the music. - Peter Piper, Let There Be Music, and the Ave Maria by Vittorio. The Glee Club is grateful to have such a capable director as Mr. Anselmo Inforzatto and are looking forward to another successful year. 4.1- MWIQ On stage Jeanne McKeman Delrdre jones Valerie Hans Sheila Kelly, Terrv Canuso Helen Cralg Mary Kernsk Carol Cxanrum Flleen Elhott 'Irma Jordan Frances Jordan Carole Uhland Regma Streckfuss Maureen Mcfrudden PBIYICI8 Mayer On loor Dolores Danforth Irewdenz Kathleen Clxsham Ann Czackl xNllL Under the able dtrectlon of Mrs Haddock the Dramauc Club successfully presented the comedy Cheaper by the Dozen It IS d1ff1CUlI to say whether the audience or the players had more fun as Nlr C llbreth attempted to put efflclency lnto his household Thxs play brought wxth II the opportunxty for us to plav chtldren atam smce the Gllbreth famlly consxsted of a dozen rollnckmg voungsters Giving this plan. was one of the happlest ex perlences of our school vear Our thanks go not only to the actrng members of the Drarnauc Club, but also to those who worked so dlllgently behxnd the scenes, and most especlallv to Nlother Niarthe our moderator Front row Pat Mayer Ellle Gallagher co edztors Dede Jones Tlnlt Danforth Back row Carole Uhland Rosalie Tagg ,Iudy ,Iourdan and Terry Canuso XI ARBOGK STAFF The Yearbook Staff has worked hard thls year to organlze a book whlch wrll be a re will measure up to the enthuslasm and ldeals we have had 1n creatmg ll Pat Mayer and Ellxe Gallagher the co edxtors have done a fxne job wxth the able assistance of Dede jones, udy ourdan Dolores Danforth and Carole Uhland We would Irke to take this opportumty to express our gratitude to Mother Therese for without her guldance thrs yearbook would not be the success that rt lS ' f ' , 4 L, membrance of the wonderful years we have spent at Ravenhill. Together the faculty and Council talked over school rules and activities and weighed each event for its contribution to a strong and unified school life. A Student Council Constitution was drawn up and adopted. As in previous years, we actively participated in the United Student Council Association of Xyt Catholic Academies Ar the monthly meetings of the Association there was an eager exchange of ideas The united academies not only helped one another in solvmg problems, but met together in a social atmosphere. Q. 0 OUR MORNING ASSEMBLY We Offer Thee All Our joy's, Works and Sufferings of This Day. Junior School News A visit from Mother General and our own Mother Frances have been held in long expectation since we reopened school on September 12. Although exteriorly we found severalpersons and things somewhat changed, we felt from the first moment of our first assem- bly, fin our new assembly roomi the same Assumption love and spirit which we had reluctantly left behind just 3 months earlier. We felt a touch of sorrow in learning that Mother Guadalupe had left us for Mexico and Mother Angeles for Central America, but we are happy in knowing that other children will share their love and our sacrifice. Our annual round of Field Trips began with the I and II grades' excursion to the Zoo on September 30. The other classes were quick to follow, each choosing one special trip as their class project, in correla- with their studies. The III grade visited a bakery, where they saw and conquered , remaining as guests for lunch. The IV grade visited the Bulletin Building, and as their treasure they each harvested a metal plate bearing their own name. The V and VI joined forces for an all-day outing to Pier 80, The Port of Phila- delphia. This year we have been guests and participants in many assemblies, some of which were a Mission Assembly in October and an Educational Work Assem- bly in November. The Scouts and Brownies have been very active this year. The Scouts are anticipating their May trip to Washington, while the Brownies will enjoy entertaining the troops of Pennypacker School. There is no need to tell of the success of cookouts and cookie selling drives . In the dramatic field we have written and produced our own plays, often at surprise assemblies. We pre- sented Christmas in the Tyrol singing some of the carols in German, and we shall, perhaps rather am- bitiously, give Tekawitha in French for Mother General. We have several times been guests at the high school entertainments, and we were much im- pressed when we saw both Jewish and Christian plays at Pennypacker School. Miss Michels, the Principal of Pennypacker, has given several lessons in Art Appreciation and our parents enjoyed very much her talk to them at the second Open House . We have played New Sharon and Drexel Hill in Basketball and Hockey, both at home and away games. We fought hard to beat the Novitiate at Dodge Ball, but wish to congratulate the Mothers hockey team on their victory over the Daughters . The parents have taken a devoted and interested part in school activities and have been guests at many social gatherings. Each grade had a Pareut's tea. The V and VI dressed as characters from famous paintings for the occasion. There was a Fathers and Daughters dinner, and a Grandmother's tea. Looking back on this school year, it is encouraging to note that all our academic activities have been so closely knit with the religious and spiritual ones. We have our weekly Mass and Communion, Benediction every First Friday, and we are proud to think that we have helped, both by prayers and in a material way to combat Communism in Italy and throughout the world. ei 'E ,,.., .TT Rarhara Domanskx f'f'rald1nc- Nolan judlth Poeter 'Vlarxa Pugcma Romero Nhee Funlcv Roach ,Ioan l-Joughf-ru Sharon lehman Ruth Q5 l'ldlPr Sarah inn Donnelly Jllllf' Same-th Call Wnght Nlarw Ivo Dans Donna Donohue Flwabc-th Hur Maru' de Narvnne-s 'Vlarlannf 'Murphy Frances 'Nloroll X11tz1 ke-han hctorxa Barbour Dems?
