CLASS POEM You know our class for its originality- So this is just another way, Of keeping memories eternal After we've finished our last day. I want to express the deep regret, That all now feel to leave The many chums we won't forget While our future we weave. These halls will ever echo chatter Of voices that used to cheer, The talk of a future president, An author you'll sometime hear. To some the future may look dark. But wait 'till we begin. We'll aim for the highest mark, Who says that we can't win? MARJORIE PECK Pago Scnnuen

CLASS WILL WE, THE CLASS OF 1940, village of Ravena, town of Coeymans, county of Albany, and State of New York, in 41 distinct parts, being about to pass out of this sphere of education, in full possession of a crammed mind, well-trained memory and an almost superhuman understanding, do make and publish this, our last will and testament, in the manner following: ITEM: To the faculty we give and bequeath all the amazing knowledge and startling information that we have furnished from time to time in our examination papers. We trust they will feel at liberty to make use of all the wisdom and enlightenment for the education of the classes to come after us. This of course, is left entirely to their own judgement. ITEM: To Mr. Deisseroth, our principal, we give and bequeath our sincere affection, our heartiest gratitude and the whole unlimited wealth of our eternal memory. It shall be his pleasure to watch every step of our upward and onward Hitting-to note each trial, each attempt, each victory, each success and honor that we may achieve in the arena of the world and to accept for himself, every ounce of praise, every iota of the honor, knowing that it is all due to the faithful instructions we received from him. ITEM: To Mr. Miller and Mr. McClelland we leave the balance of our class treasury to be used to buy a pair of rubber-soled shoes for detective work during their stay in Washington. ITEM: To the football team of next year we leave the ability of Carmen Albano, Kenneth Storr and Carmen Sgroi. fWe couldn't pursuade Melvin Hotaling to leave hisj. ITEM: To Don Richter we leave Tony Scalzols ability to get the most beautiful girl in Washington. ITEM: To Kenny Klenk we leave Dorothy Halsted's musical ability. It is said that music hath charm to sooth the savage beast. ITEM: To Alice Craw we give Anne Whippleis ability in orchestra to watch Miss Dennis and the audience at the same time. Anne may have lost a measure or skipped a beat occasionally-but she never missed anything or anybody in the audience. ITEM: To Floyd Tompkins we leave Kenny Storr's ability in sports. With it goes Kenny's place on the all-league team next year. ITEM: Henry Blenis leaves his wisdom and knowedge of physics to Marcy Tinkle. Marcy will need them. ITEM: Helen Wiltsie's ability to snap gum we leave to Eleanor Hummer-with a book of instructions. ITEM: jane Wally's quiet manner and sweet disposition we leave to Bernie O'Sullivan. Jane was said to be the quietest girl in the school. ITEM: To Shirley Jarvis we leave Thelma Lee's patented giggle and her cultivated lisp, which was so effective in and out of the Senior play. ITEM: To Bill Gallagher we leave Billy Pemberton's technique. Still water runs deep. We also leave him the map of Washington and floor plan of the Carroll Arms. ITEM: To the Junior class we are going to leave Mr. Chipp and our old History C note- books. We hope you will be as studious as we were during the last two weeks. ITEM: To the basketball team of next year we leave the privilege of polishing the trophies won this year. Page eighteen
