SfIElItlIllD1Dlll9 lIlEll3Qll Band Coeymans High School is very proud of its forty piece band. The band has progressed greatly this year and has taken part in a number of events. Our band journeyed to Hudson this spring to take part in a contest in which it competed with many other high school bands from New York State., Although we did not have the good fortune of winning, our band received a very high rating. Cn Moving Up Day, the members of the band were awarded activity pins. VVC wish to thank Miss Sawyer and Mr. Poverelli, our directors, for all that they have done to make the past year a successful one for the band. Senior Girls' Glee Club Since music was first introduced as a formal course of study in Coeymans High School in 1936, interest in singing and instrumentation has grown rapidly. At present, there are six musical clubs. Prominent among these is the Senior Girls' Glee Club. This organization is composed of Senior High School girls who meet twice weekly to sing and learn about music. For a year and a half, they Glee Club has been directed by Mis Muriel Sawyer, a graduate of Fine Arts, Boston University. I This year, a new system for the Glee Club has been inaugurated. The Club now meets twice a week during the fourth period, an arrangement which gives the girls more time to perfect each song and also allows each member a point per year toward graduation. One of the highlights of the year comes each Moving Up Day. On -that occasion, the girls receive pinsfwhich are paid for by the proceeds of a cafeteria. It has been the pleasure of the Glee Club to furnish musical programs at P. T. A., assemblies, Moving Up Day, and community affairs. A Sextette has re- centlybeen formed from the members of the Glee Club. This includes: Carmella Conora, Regina Co-okingham, and jane Robbins,'Sopranos, and jean Gregory, Irene Pietrunti and jane Van Kempen, Altos. These girls have sung at many social and school events. Junior Glee Club The Junior Girls' Glee Club consists of thirty girls, chosen from the 6th, 7th, and Sth grades. These girls, under the direction of Miss Caldwell, receive the fundamental glee club preparation, thus enabling them to join the senior glee club when they are Freshmen in high school. One appearance was made by the girls in assembly last fall 3 another one was at the Dutch Reformed Church, where they sang Christmas selections accompanied by trumpets. This performance was followedz by Christmas carols in the evening at which Qie junior and Senior Glee Clubs were combined. The girls will also sing at grade graduation in june. The officers of our organization include the follow- ing girls: President, Cynthia Mitchell, Vice President, Shirley Wilseyg Secretary, Vivian Cumm 5 Treasurer, Margaret Bottsg Librarian, Betty De Flumer. Sll'3lltlIllDfIDlIb llliilldilll Dramatic Club The members of the Dramatic Club, under the direction of Miss Stolzel, have had a very successful season. Coeymans again participated in a competitive play contest against Coxsackie and Ravena. Coeymans presented a one-act comedy The Wedding by John Kirkpatric. The members of the cast proved themselves to be excellent actors and left a lasting impression on the minds of their spectators. The Dramatic Club is instrumental in developing talent and interest in Dramatics in the high school students. Honor Club For the past eight years, Coeymans High School has had an Honor Club. Scholarship is the most important factor in determining membership since on aver- age of above SOWJ is required. Credits are given for school attendance, athletics, clubs and other extra-curricular activities. Pins were awarded on Moving Up Day of this year to forty students who qualified by making ten points. The award this year was a very attractive bronze pin. lt has long been considered a high honor and privilege to be a members of this club and it is a goal for which the students work during the year. Library Club The Library Club has been organized for many years to assist the librarian in carrying on the Work of our school library. The purpose of the club is to teach pupils the use of the library, to foster an appreciation of books and to know how to manage the adminisration of the library. Under the direction of Miss Eleanor Cleland, the Library Club has done much to improve ourr library during the past year. We have been able to add over 100 new books, so that now our total number of volumes is about 1800. In addition to these, l00 books have been borrowed from the State Library. In May, the Library Club held its annual party for the initiation of the new members who were chosen for their excellence in the administration of the l.ibrary'. This year ten new members were asked to join. , The Library Club members received their pins on Moving-Up Day. Page Twcffify-fizfr'
