S4ElIHIf4DiiDllb M9939 Football Last fall the game of six-man football was inaugurated in the Central Hud- son Valley League. This was necessary because the few boys who reported for practice were not sufficient for eleven-man football. The Coeymans Sextette, under the guidance of Coach Kunz, played an important role in this new game. Although we did not win the league, we won four out of the six league games and outscored our opponents one hundred four to forty-seven points. We also gave the game a dramatic tinge by our open style of playing before enthusiastic and large crowds. Ideal weather and keen competition kept interest at a high pitch. We wish to thank Mr. Kunz for his assistance and guidance. Basketball A sensational comesback with a continous string of victories after a poor showing in the beginning of the season is the record of the Coeymans High School basketball team of 1939. By defeating Coxsackie in the last game of the season, Coeymans, created a three-way tie with Coxsackie and Castleton. Although we did not emerge champions, we won nine game during the season. In April, the boys were awarded bronze basketballs for their excellent show- ing. The students of Coeymans High have always been noted tor their sincere sportsmanship. We are happy to say that this enviable quality was shown by our basketball team many times during the season. Baseball A promising baseball season looks likely for the Coeymans' nine this year. There is a long list of candidates which includes a majority of last year's squad. The league is divided into two divisions, northern and southern. This makes the divisions independent groups. so that each group winner will play a three-game series for the championship. Coeymans is in the southern division and will compete with Ravena, Athens and Coxsackie. Mr. Whiter is our very able coach. Page S6'Zl01lfI?CII
