Sll3lIHIllDlDllfQ lllfilillgll The Crossroads The eighth grade class of '39 will leave, this year, one of the happiest periods of their lives-grammar-schooldays. Thus far, it has not been very hard to follow, but from now on, we know that each year will bring new highways and byways. VVe thank our teachers who have helped us to make ready by equipping us with the strong asset of knowledge which we shall use whenever possible on our journey. This past year has been one of the happiest. Mr. VVhiter is our home-room teacher. Our class officers are: President, William Wolfe, Vice-President, Myron Ray, Secretary, Irene Donar: Treasurer. Margaret Bottsg Student Council Representative, Raymond Wfilsey. We stand at the crossroads of our lives. VVhich way we shall turn is, as yet, unknown. The Struggle Seven long, difficult years ago, a group of mischievous little pupils toddled into Miss Lewis' first grade room. The next year they shyly ventured into ,Miss Bryan's presence. The rolling along of the third year, showed their shyness dis- appearing. They were grown up now. No longer did the girls wear pigtails or the boys pull them. Miss Keddie was well pleased. In our journey through the fourth grade, we traveled with Miss Hull over the Lincoln Highway . Still traveling we stopped at the fifth grade. At this point, we were forced to separate, much to our disappointment. Our spirits were brightened at the thought of producing a great play on March 25, 1937. The great event was accom- plished, thanks to Miss Smith. Surely you remember the 'A Princess and the Swin- herd . We soon were acquainted with Miss Barnes and grew to like her very much. There was much disappointment in leaving her in June. l hope you miss us as much, Miss Barnes. After graduating and going upstairs to the seventh grade, we felt quite so- phisticated. One would never know seven short years could change a human being so greatly. We are settled quite comfortably in Miss Hammersley's room at the present. I don't think our struggle to survive was so difficult, do you? Student Council This important student organization of Coeymans High School has made remarkable progress during the past year in clearing up its deficit. ln the tfall, we sold football buttons and sponsored a unique cafeteria. During the winter season, we sold basketball buttons and also held a successful benefit movie. VV e were freed from the remainder of our debt through the student pictures taken early in February. Also, during the year, the council sponsored: The Utica jubilee Singers, Carmelo Cascio, the well known blind pianist, and the Student Hand Book. XVe wish to thank Mr. Ray. our faculty adviser, for his help in making this year a very successful one for the Student Council. Page Fifteen
