The 1970-71 school year of Raton High School was laced with many varied and memorable experiences. These pages merely reflect the work and toil, the fun and play, of that unforgettable year. These memories will come forward bringing a smile, perhaps a tear, but always a distant gaze at a moment past. But it was the expressions that made these memories. Do you remember when— twenty members of the Class of 1971 were recognized for their expressions in academic achievement; Amie jubilantly reigned as prom queen; student council officers relaxed after a vigorous campaign; and the ag boys expressed their toil while fencing the sports fields. A building is cold, inanimate until it has a purpose to serve. This building we call Raton High School was only steel, concrete, and bricks until it was populated by you, the students and faculty. Now this building is an expression of you. It is fun, exciting, boring, dreary, depending on the mood of its occupants. It is what you are. 7
