Leason, Raton School Nurse. Miss Leason has contributed much to this community and nation. In 1926, Miss Leason was a graduate of Raton High School; after graduation, she attended Beth El Hospital Nursing School from which she received her R. N. She then returned to Raton as a nurse at Miners Hospital and Dr. M. F. Smith’s Hospital. At the start of World War II, she joined the Army Nurses Corps and spent many months in the South Pacific. She obtained the rank of Major and was in charge of nurses aboard the hospital ship, Comfort. Upon her discharge, she returned to Colfax County as County School Nurse. Later she became Raton School Nurse, a position which she still holds. As Raton School Nurse, Miss Etta Leason has come in personal contact with practically every student in Raton Schools. She has made it her responsibility to see that many students have proper clothing, food, and medical attention. Miss Leason instigated the Dental Health Care Unit, clothing collection for needy children, distribution of Christmas baskets, and the Sabin Oral Sunday. Every student will recall the quivers that accompanied the yearly shots and the soothing attitude of Miss Leason as she calmed our fears. Remember all those ear, eye, and teeth examinations that we used to take? Thank you, Miss Leason, for being our comforter, our healer—our friend. 4 9 eason Boren B) oa Loren has been a big participant of athletic activities for four years.
