ff f of , ' Q ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT The Engineering Department is comprised of ratings that keep the ship running from steam for the boilers to freon for the refrigeration system and water for cooking and showers. The work is often hot. dirty. and seemingly thankless. Without these men and their efforts the mission of the ship would be but a dream. The boiler technicians I B Ts Q operate and maintain and repair the I 200 PSI steam plant that is essential to the effective production of steam power. They work in the ship's Hrerooms maintaining the ship 's boilers and related machineries. The Hull Technicians fHTsQ install and repair metal structures. They install and maintain plumbing and piping systems and perform tasks in association with damage control. The Enginemen fENsQ maintain, repair, and operate the internal combustion engines which play a vital role in the powering of the small boats, generators, and other associated equipment throughout the ship. The Interior Communication Technicians fICmenQ operate and repair the electronics devices used in the ship's interior communications systems. public address system. and other announcing equipment.
