Boys' Basketball The guidance of head coach Mr. Rich- ard Sherman and the play of juniors T.J. 0'Donnell, Tom Seegar, Mike Clarke and Ian I-lills, along with senior captain Gerry Connolley propelled the Rockets to a 13-12 overall record and a birth in the Group Ill state playoffs. After opening the season with a cou- ple of tough losses, the Rockets caught fire. They rolled through the competi- tion in the Bayshore Holiday Tourna- ment to capture their second consecu- tive crown. The Rockets continued their streak as they won 9 out of their first 13 con- tests, thus qualifying for a birth in the state playoffs. As the season came to a close, the competition got tougher and the boys finished with a 12-11 final regu- lar season record. The team then pre- pared for the state playoffs and defeat- ed J.F.K Iselin 81 t0 79, but then lost to Bridgewater-Raritan-West 74-47 and thusly were eliminated from the state tournament. All together it was a great year in basketball. Girls' Basketball Impressive is the word used to describe this years Varsity girls' basketball team which compiled an overall 26-2 record. After stringing together three consecu- tive regular season victories, the Lady Rock- ets went on to capture the Bayshore Holiday Tournament title with a 54-36 victory over I-lolmdel. Senior Moureen Mullahy was named the tournaments M.V.P. Along with Mullahy, senior Denise Reddy was named to the all-tournament team. The team continued their winning streak throughout the regular season. They finished the year with a final regular season record of 22-0, 13-0 in the conference. With that the girls claimed the 'B' North Conference title. It was then time for post season play. The Lady Rockets then suffered their first loss of the season to top-seeding Neptune 70-48 in the Shore Conference final. With competition get- ting tougher the girls made their bid at a Group Ill State Championship. There the girls lost a heartbreaking 69-63 loss to Red Bank Regional.
