by tKe Annjjerf taff of -RAPP A H A N N C ALONG THE WAY. . . There are alwoys a collection of memories thot students toke with them when they leave their high school. Somehow they ore never forgotten, ond when old acquaintances meet years later, their High School days are alwoys brought up as a topic of con- versation. You pick up a lot of useful knowledge in school; you make a lot of friends; and you find out who you really are . . . Along The Way. The essence of RCHS 3:10-a heaven on eorth. Christine Timbers was the highest patron ad salesman; Norman Jenkins wos second. (He'll have to try harder!) 2 Double-spacing, five minutes, ready, begin! Where did everyone go? Rappahannock County High School — a long name for o small school. But we have odvantoges that other schools do not have. We have close friendships; we're closer to our teach- ers because they are able to give us more time. So life goes on 3 The Rappsody Staff would like to thank Mr. Flinchum ond the Photography Club for the many pictures they contributed to us. Our thanks also to Mr. David Downs, whose quiet pa- tience and beautiful pictures were greatly appreciated. Mrs. Pomeroy adds another timing to one of her many colorful bulletin boards. Classroom Quiz participants brought in a lot of money for the Senior Class. T Look, do you wont a zero. Kid? Members of the Photography Club goof off after a hard day of picture- taking. 4 SOCIALS '•3 • The Closs of '73 sponsored o great prom lost spring entitled Tomorrow, Tomorrow, Tomorrow , and went on to hove just os much fun at their Senior Ring Dance this year when the bond played groovy music for us to donee to. The S.C.A. sponsored o Thanksgiving program; and the Christmas play, put on for the student body by the faculty, proved hilorious. Planning was started in February for the Senior play. Dearly Beloved, we are gathered here todoy . . (It's really the Thanksgiving Day progrom.) What some people won't do for otten- Another Pepsi, please! tion! 5 MEMORIES Christine Timbers was crowned queen of the Sweetheart Dance. Here Mr. Flinchum places the tiara on her heod while her court looks on. From left to right ore: Roy Rector (9th), Mary Kilby (1 1th), Mr. Flinchum, Christine Timbers (queen), Sherry Looney (10th), ond Donna Cannon (8th). Lindo John Vickie Korl Nancy Steve Tomorrow, Tomorrow, Tomorrow 6 DEDICATION This year we dedicate the 1973 Roppsody to Mr. Williom A. Harrison, with sincere appreciation for his understanding of young people as well as his ability to communicote well with them, his heart-warming sense of humor, and his unique way of educating students that makes him a special person. A man of many qualities. I told my wife not to put in so much starch. 7 FACULTY This yeor the faculty dedicated their all to help make the students even better; and we at Rappahannock County High sure have a variety of teochers to fill our needs. Sometimes we may wonder if it is worth it to drog through each day, pondering over loods of work and praying a lot; but when you stop to think about the work they put into each day, you figure it has to be for a good purpose. And it is! Because teachers contribute to the things all of us acquire — along the way. Girls, get out of that living room and do your jobs. I Now, class, this is the proper way to hitch-hike. Their con- cern for students helps to make the time we spend here go by a little smoother. Mr. Wingfield, our principal, Mr. Patterson, our assistant principal, along with Mr. Futrell, our guidance counselor, make a team that is hard to beat and impossible to do without. Mr. Wingfield: Yes, dear, . . . chicken will be fine . . Oh, no, sir. I wasn't taking to you. Mr. Futrell: That's your problem! 11 Mr. Patterson: Okay, what's your excuse? STAFF The staff of RCHS works to please, and fills our school with either food, sparkle, or on answering service os a variety of things we remember along the way. They olways have a cheerful smile and are willing to offer a helping hand. Miss Betty Lee An air-conditioned office makes work a little easier. Mrs. Foster and Mrs. Jenkins are hiding their secret recipe for meatloaf. Mr. and Mrs. Atkins are always doing something to touch-up our school. 12 Officers: Mauri Raney, Vice-President; Cil Davis, President; Sponsor, Mrs. Wood; Charla Sisk, Secretary; James Wigington, Trea- surer; Sponsor Mr. Harrison. I want you to know that I'm going into this whole thing with my eyes closed. SENIORS As the Senior Class nears the end of what they've all been striving for, they'll all remember the Senior Ring Dance, Se- nior Trip, and the Senior Play os a few of the highlights in the most important year at RCHS. Rememberances of past rela- tionships and activities will mingle with other memories that they've picked up along the way. 13 BENJAMIN A. ATKINS Born to be Free from Everyone! This year the number of Cheerleaders has been decreased from ten to seven. Led by captain Angelo Dennis, members of the squad attended Cheerleodmg Camp during the summer, which odded several new cheers, stunts, and ideas to the group. The Cheerleaders decided on new uniforms this year and paid for them through selling Panther Pep Cushions to the school and general public. Although pep rallies were few and far between, the group cheered our othletes on to the Stote Cross Country Championship, the Basketball Tournament, and a good baseball and track season. GIRL'S BASKETBALL Row One: Judi Burke; Roso Jordan; Sharon Foster; Cheryl Poling; Robin Estes; Debbie Hudson. Row Two: Lisa Day; Betty Com- pton; Carolyn Woodward; Marian Skowronski; Margaret Jett Ruby Dunn; Peggy Scroggins; Molly Dennis and Coach Miss Spieker. This experimental team represented quite a come-back for girls' basketball at RCHS, since the last team was in 1964. Our new teom played four games, including the hilarious gome with a local women's club — final score was 37-3 our fovor. Along the way the girls learned the volue of teamwork, as well as skill. They showed their appreciation to their coach, Miss Ann Spieker, by surprising her with a trophy at the Christmas assembly. Girls at RCHS haven't had very much chance to show their athletic abilities, so we hope girls' basketball is here to stay. 60 Sink that ball! Jump against Luray! Lisa Day is up in the Air! Marion Skrowonski toes the line! Time Out Strategy Reody for a Rebound. There are a lot of jumps in Girl's Basketball! 61 GIRL'S TRACK Row One; Sharon Foster, Judi Burke, Maureen Day, Kay Bennett, Lisa Day, Kathy Dwyer, Wendy Brown, Libby Snead. Row Two: Katie Pendleton, Ruth Clatterbuck, and Miss Ann Spieker. In spring '72 a new sport for girls wos added to the RCHS sports program. It wos an experimental track team, but then in the spring of '73 they competed in a regular season in their district. The girls worked, but they olso had fun at the few meets in which they participated. They especially liked hurdles and relays, but other events tested their throwing and jumping abilities. Their abilities must hove been pretty good, too, because they never came home without at least one first place. Of course none of this would have happened if it hod not been for Miss Ann Spieker giving up her spare time and energy to work with these girls. Thanks Miss Spieker! 62 63 SUMMING IT ALL UP I'd walk a mile for a Camel. Hi . . Right on! 64 Hey, you guys dig this.
