School bells ringin' early in the day, Rub our tired eyes and say, There ain't no way. Country Roads, take us home, to the place we belong. Rappahannock, Mountain Mama, Take us home. Country Roads. And truckin' down the hall, We see our friends and teachers on their way to class, way to class. Country Roads, take us home to the place we belong, Rappahannock, Mountain Mama Take us home, Country Roads Long winding road How could a burglar get through that little door? One little piggie went to market, two piggies came to school. 3 ove to wear uniforms out here TO THE PLACE WE BELONG 6 SOCIALS Many entertaining and memorable events highlight a year at RCHS. Last spring, the Class of '72 held the prom titled, Parisian Holiday . This year began with a Masquerade Party for the benefit of FHA. Next in line was the Senior Ring Dance given by the Senior Class. The SCA sponsosred the Thanksgiving Assembly. Other events included a 'Talent Show sponsored by NHS, and a Christmas program given by the fac- ulty. Social events did not end there, for future planning was underway. The 45th Cavalry was great at the Ring Dance I'll take her to heaven1 7 Mike and Patricia enjoy the Se- nior Ring Dance Faculty members appear most content at the 1971 Prom Hey, you're not my wife If you're gonna look over there, I'm gonna look over here' The President of NHS dances away Kevin snaps away for the Annual Staff There's a lot going on around our school, and much of it is sponsored by the various organiza- tions and clubs created and developed by the students. Cooperation of the faculty and administration aid in getting them off to a good start. But the rest is left up to the students who fulfill the positions faithfully. Judy, after a hard work-out at cheerleading practice 9 SCA The SCA, under the guidance of Mr. FI inchum, Sponsor, had a very successful season in '71-'72. Starting off with the very successful magazine campaign making us one of the richest clubs in the school. So with gratitude, we donated the money to our State Winning Cross-Country Team, for its equipment next season. In the entertaining department, the SCA held a real Turkey Show for the school for Thanksgiving. Next came the crowning of the Sweetheart Queen, Miss Bonnie Lillard, at a dance held to celebrate St. Valentines Day. Next on the agenda came Teachers Appreciation Day, with flowers and a luncheon as a small token to show our ap- preciation for such a groovy faculty. Row Three: Betty Lee, Co-Captain; Wendy Brown; Cassie Frye; Florence Turner. This year, the number of Varsity Cheerleaders at our school was increased by three. The number rose from seven to ten. There were eight regulars with two alternates. Being a cheerleader carries a lot of ups and downs. It means weekly practices, sore muscles and throats, “family squabbles , and long bus rides, often on a fourth of a seat. But, it's winks from the players, smiles from the crowd of spectators, all the little things, and most of all, nights like the Friday nite at Strasburg High when the Panthers broke their losing season that make it all so worth while. The Varsity Cheerleaders would like to extend their sincerest gratitude to Mrs. Linda Yakim, their sponsor, for her time and help. “Those Panthers are some kinda good JUNIOR VARSITY CHEERLEADERS The Junior Varsity Cheerleaders would like to thank their sponsor, Miss Sharon Clark, for all of the time and help she gave towards their development. The Junior Varsity Cheerleading Squad is in it's second year at Rappahannock. The squad is chosen from eighth, ninth, and tenth grade girls. All efforts were put forth this season by the eleven cheerleaders, and they showed up prepared and anxious at every game. They maintained their smiles and good spirit whether the Junior Varsity Panthers were winning or losing. No matter what happens, the Junior Varsity cheerleaders will also admit that it all was worth it. Hey, let's show our JV's that we love 'em Row One Cindy Cummins. Row Two Beth Parker; Linda Atkins. Conditioning and practicing consumes more time than we realize, but those long hours of hard rood work really pay off. Our team showed a lot better than pretty good for their first year. Pan- ther runners won their first four track meets with Charles Thomas being unbeaten in all five. Bill Taylor and John Summers usually traded second and third places, while Bronson Jenkins, Bobby Foster, and Tom Taylor rounded out the team. Bobby Titchenell was also a valuable and faithful runner. A new feeling seemed to fill all spectators, players, and cheerleaders. And Strasburg Rams began to scatter everywhere. After that, the winning streak continued. It continued through further wins over Strasburg, Central, Elkton, and William Monroe. These victories carried us to the district tournament. Much appreciation goes to the players for their hard work, fine efforts, and long awaited victories. Thanks, also, go to Mr. Carter Ellis, Coach, who gave of his time and knowledge to lead the Pan- thers down the country road to victory. The Junior Varsity team, also, put forth much effort in the '71- '72 season. Even though their season was not as successful as the Varsity, after all, it's not whether you win or lose, but how you play the game. And the JV's showed fine team and sportsmanship action during their game. Much thanks goes to Mr. Dean Hahn, for his guidance, time, and help during the season. 28 EDDIE WILLIAMS makes it good1 GARY WILLIAMS blocked by opposing player Raise the score two points 29 Rappahannock and Stonewall back to back You can't have my bat! Mornings, afternoons, and sometimes even evenings, the staff is hard at work for the benefit of all people concerned with RCHS. 33 Country roads take our School Marms and Masters, our teachers, home after our rush is over. When the 3:10 bell rings, they're no longer our teacher's, they're human again. We're luckier at Rappahannock than we realize, because we have young teach- ers that we can identify with. If you've got a problem, there's always a teacher's shoulder to cry on. They make us work, and sweat, and shed a few tears, but after all of the term papers, projects, book reports, themes, essays and papers, we can sit back and relax. We don't realize that their work has just begun. Grading all of those delightful papers, figuring grades, helping us pass, they have a bigger job than we know, because it's up to them to know us, teach Did You hear the one about . . .? us, and to make us think.
